Mrs. Janice Rymer, the Deputy Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour, is expected to act as Labour Commissioner until further notice.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - News just reaching Virgin Islands News Online is that Labour Commissioner Oleanvine Maynard is expected to be sent on leave next week and will not return to her post as Labour Commissioner.

According to well placed sources within the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) Government, a Public Service Commission (PSC) paper is on its way for the agenda sending the officer on leave and appointing Mrs. Janice Rymer, the Deputy Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour, to act in the post until further notice.

Calls to the Department of Human Resources and the Governor’s Office on the matter have not been returned, however, Human Resources have told Virgin Islands News Online before that all PSC matters are confidential.

Another source told this news site that complaints and files about Mrs. Maynard’s performance were advanced to the new Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Dr. Kedrick Pickering by two very senior government officials which may have contributed to the decision to remove the officer.

As of today Thursday December 8, 2011, Mrs. Maynard is still on the job.

Is there a witch hunt for public officers who allegedly supported the Virgin Islands Party?

Many in the community are now asking the question, if there is a witch hunt for public officers who were allegedly supporters of the now opposition Virgin Islands Party Government of former Premier Ralph T. O’Neal OBE.

Some civil servants are also blasting the United Kingdom appointed Governor William Boyd McCleary, who is the head of the civil service, for allegedly “sitting by while there is a perception of victimization of some public officers”.

With Mrs. Maynard soon to be removed from office, it will come days after the sacking of Ray George from the Ministry of Communications and Works, the extended leave of Kharid Fraser the Accountant General, and the denial of a contract renewal for Otto O’Neal the Cabinet Secretary. Mr. O’Neal’s last day on the job is December 15, 2011.

Virgin Islands News Online will keep its readers up-dated as more information becomes available.

You expect the accountant general who sat by and couldn't tell some about the repercussions of those hefty spending to continue in her position, when her husband was chief of the doings. When you want to do the best for the country, put the best persons in psition. It is time we clean house for the betterment of our country.

It happens every time Government changes !!! Ray wasn't given a contract based on qualifications, he got it based on his alleigance to VIP. The Government was elected by the people to carry out a specific mandate! If they feel the need to reshuffle their team, they have the right to do so. I'm sure these people are being dealt with in accordance with the law and in an ethical manner. Clean house let's move forward! Next stop, formal investigations and inquries!

The word on the street is, all you got to do is give her a big plate of food and your permit will be passed. LOL On the real side I did not hear no public out cry in 2007 when the same type of house cleaning was going on.

This lady needed to be moved a long time ago from Labour Department. They knew fully well that she was not the best for that area because she is lazy, bias and lacks ambition and vision for the success of that department. If they moving her I support it 100% becase she abuses the system for her own personal gains and treats people like animanls. She lack motivational skills to help move the staff forward in achiving the objectives of that department. This move is one of the best move yet. Good strategic thinking and planning, because when they find a new Labour CM, hopefully the department would be a lot more productive in its operations.

I am in agreement with you well sa when you say that she is bias, she looks good lazy to....Anyways I have witness her bragging how she get people jobs and she could get them out (so unprofessional). Inline waiting for food and she get bad treatment "oh that woman don't know who I am, when she come labor looking to get work permit renewal she going wait and see if she get it". Now is this the kind of people we need working in the Government. Get rid of her behind yes she too boasting and out of all order.

George, Frazer & O'Neal, everyone knows these people are strong VIP. Matter-of-fact they got their position through their VIP affiliation. The NDP would be fools to keep them in those positions. If they did the VIP would know every step they were making. Changes like this happens all over the world when a government change. As for the labour commissioner, she had need to go from VIP time.
