ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - As the Corporate Cricket Tournament reached its half way point last Thursday, October 20, 2016, KPMG/Maples merged team took on the Conyers/Deloitte merged team with both teams looking for their first win in the tournament.

Conyers/Deloitte won the toss and decided to bat, reaching 84 from their 10 overs mostly thanks to Murray Laing from Conyers who was run out by David Welford for 15 and man of the match Shevon Williams of Deloitte who put on a score of 32 not out, blasting two fours and two sixes on the way.

The KPMG/Maples batting line up proved two strong, however, as their reply saw good partnerships at the top of the order. First Richard May of Maples and Johannes Naude of KPMG combined to put on 44 from 32 deliveries with May contributing 23, including five boundaries. However, both openers were bowled in successive overs by Conyers female player Kaiola Rhymer, to give Conyers/Deloitte a glimmer of hope, but Dan Perkins and David Welford of Maples were able to see their team home in 9.2 overs.

KPMG/Maples rose to fourth position in Group B, level with the Police and Harneys on three points with only run rate separating all three teams, whilst BCQS/Antarctica lead with two wins out of two.

Groundworks bury The Moorings

In the second game, Groundworks took on The Moorings and after a loss of early wickets, the Groundworks pair of Aaron Baker and Man of the Match, Mohammed Hasan combined for an explosive 100 run partnership from 33 balls. Hasan retired not out on 50 from 18 balls featuring four 4s and four 6s, seeing the team post 125.

In reply, The Moorings team crumbled in the face of the huge total and could only manage 69 for 5 in their 10 overs, with opener J Ragnauth hitting 23 from 18 balls, including two maximums.

That result let the Moorings in fourth place in Pool A, whilst Team Groundworks shot straight to the top of the group, tied on 6 points with current champions Delta Petroleum but with a better run rate.

This Thursday, October 27, 2016 sees a repeat of last year’s final with Team RTW playing Team Delta and in Pool B the Police will also be in action against Team Harneys.
