DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) has promised that for Easter 2016, the Guyanese Association of the BVI will be able to return to the cruise pier to host its annual kite-flying extravaganza.

The Honourable Minister was speaking yesterday April 6, 2015 at the annual event, this time held at Fantasea in Duff’s Bottom.

Because of the ongoing construction of the landside aspect of the cruise pier development project, hosting the kite-flying extravaganza there this year was not possible.

“Ladies and gentlemen I am enjoying the fun you’re having. Next year you’ll be back at the cruise ship dock. I promise you that,” he said to loud applause. We have a nice piece of reclaimed land that we will have there so get ready for it,” he said.

During the event yesterday, Guyanese residing in the VI came out in their numbers despite the disadvantages of the smaller, less breezy venue, which saw more kites on the ground than in the air.

In addition to kite-flying, persons had the opportunity to play games such as musical chairs. There were lots to eat and drink.

“We want to say thank you to the management of Fantasea for allowing us to use this venue here this year,” said President of the Guyanese Association of the BVI Marvin O. Grant.

The event was sponsored by Digicel, Nagico Insurances, Road Town Wholesale, One Mart Supermarket, Medi-Cure Ltd among others.

I have fond memories of building a kite with my dad every year and going on the cay to fly it. There wasn't an event back then but several persons could be seen flying kites at the same time during kite flying season.
