ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - It was a morning that the students of the Elmore Stoutt High School today November 13, 2014, welcomed and would have loved for it to have been prolonged, not necessarily for speeches but more for the cultural lessons and demonstrations ‎that highlight the roots of the Territory.

The mammoth audience of teachers, parents, dignitaries and most of all the students of the school was wowed when popular craft stallholder Ms Kishmet B. Daniels and some of her children took centre stage.

Ms Daniels and her children were all decked in their cultural wear and much to the audience’s surprise she demonstrated her‎ handicraft work done primarily by her children and herself.

Moving were the demonstrations of wool-knitting, using the empty milk boxes to make penny purses which are also suitable for jump drives, pocket books made of rice plastic bags, earrings made of soda can caps, ‎penny bank made from Kool Aid containers just to name a few.

In her brief presentation Ms Daniels told the high school students that nothing for her children comes easy has they were taught and have adapted to the principle that whatever they need must be earned by honest labour.

She was even able to showcase a beautiful dress that she did using a weaving machine her dad had purchased her. She said that while it was a gift she had to all by herself figure out how to operate and use the machine.

And when the audience had their fill of the creativity of the Daniels family, it was time for some cultural dancing, kicked off first with Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn taking to the dance floor followed by several guests, school heads and the students themselves.

This Government has done more or Kishmet to display her talents than her own VIP with Fraser. NO wonder his speech was so negative towards the Minister of Education especially. Kishmet keep your head up and don't be a tool for VIP, NDP or any P. Take care of your family and keep up the good works with your craft. As someone in your age group I envy how you were able to take in all that talent from our elders, many of whom are no longer here. I hope you are given a real opportunity to profit from it as well as give back to others in the community to pass on your skills. It gave me goose bumps to see your young kids in these pictures doing this. They seem so disciplined and well mannered. Take care of yourself.

I guess we live on a continent...."island" man you say? As for "we" music, please invest more time into your grammar rather than negativity as well as studying Caribbean history. Thanks!

Kishmet and Kids you're full of talent............Please keep your head above it all as you continue to be a good roll model for the young kids today. I wish I had that kind of talent but its not for everyone. You're kids are beautiful and I admire them. Talk care of your self and the kids.

Thanks for the response. Glad to know that you are passing your knowledge on to the youngsters. Keep pressing on, things will get better that's for sure. Also from an economic standpoint, please speak with someone at Government or with links to Government to ensure you benefit from the push to bring more Tourists to the island via Cruise ships and otherwise. Your natural craft is what the people crave and they will truly have a piece of BVI when they purchase your items.

Frankly, Ms. Daniels is doing the BVI a favor. Of course, they will yell and cry foul, because she is a Fraser supporter

Kismet is doing really good things for our culture. I know parents today are not pushing their children learn the importance of the BVI culture. Well done Ms. Daniels.
