Kishmet B. Daniels & Kids wowed at cultural day opening
The mammoth audience of teachers, parents, dignitaries and most of all the students of the school was wowed when popular craft stallholder Ms Kishmet B. Daniels and some of her children took centre stage.
Ms Daniels and her children were all decked in their cultural wear and much to the audience’s surprise she demonstrated her handicraft work done primarily by her children and herself.
Moving were the demonstrations of wool-knitting, using the empty milk boxes to make penny purses which are also suitable for jump drives, pocket books made of rice plastic bags, earrings made of soda can caps, penny bank made from Kool Aid containers just to name a few.
In her brief presentation Ms Daniels told the high school students that nothing for her children comes easy has they were taught and have adapted to the principle that whatever they need must be earned by honest labour.
She was even able to showcase a beautiful dress that she did using a weaving machine her dad had purchased her. She said that while it was a gift she had to all by herself figure out how to operate and use the machine.
And when the audience had their fill of the creativity of the Daniels family, it was time for some cultural dancing, kicked off first with Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn taking to the dance floor followed by several guests, school heads and the students themselves.
