Kings to meet Legs in Basketball semi finals!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Ray Victor’s 20 points led the Kings to a 115-77 victory over the Pure Playaz on Sunday July 15, 2012 and a decisive 2-1 advantage in the best of 3 playoff series in the BVI Basketball Federation’s Summer League.

Victor’s return for the night was boosted by 8 rebounds and 3 assists whilst Jevonne Demming and Wuli Frometa both scored 20 and the Kings never looked back from a 22 point credit by the end of the 1st quarter. Roger Farrington scored 22 for the Pure Playaz and Jeron Barnes added 15 in the losing cause.

The first game of the series had also gone the way of the Kings, 100-70; with Victor again top scoring with 29 points, brother Rowan picked up 18 and Demming 16 as this time the Kings used a strong second quarter to secure victory. Bodean Sammuel hit 25 points for the Playaz and Deon Smith 21, but they couldn’t get back into the game despite a stronger second half.

Game 2 went the way of the Playaz 97-92 with Sammuel again top scoring with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Farrington added 18 points and both Smith and Ephraim Gordon scored 13.

This game went all the way to the 4th quarter with the scores evenly matched, but in the final 15 minutes, the Playaz outscored the Kings by 11 to run out winners and keep the series alive.

Also through in the Senior Division are East, who beat All Ah Wee 2-0 in the series, winning the first game 83-68 and the second 83-72. Clint Weston top scored in both games with 17 and 30 points respectively whilst Dwayne Penn with 15 points and 17 rebounds and Leslie Smith with 15 points and 11 rebounds both doubled in the first game. Smith added another double of 27 points and 14 rebounds in the second game and Garvin Frett also reached the mark with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

In the Development League, the ESHS Gold Rams advanced to a semi final against the Bulls as both teams won their series 2-0.

The Gold Rams took care of High Speed winning the first game 43-38 thanks to Shaquiel Prescott’s 10 points, Jasin Ryhmer’s 8 and Hakeem Penn’s 6. Jachoy Walwyn scored 16 for Hi Speed and Revaughn Sprauve added 11. In game 2, the Rams killed the game defensively and offensively in the first half racing to a 35-10 lead and were never seriously troubled for the rest of the game. Prescott again top scored with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals, whilst Ryhmer added 8 and Akeem Nibbs, 7. For Hi Speed, only Walwyn reached double figures ending the game with 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 6 steals.

The Bulls advanced with a crushing 43-27 rout of Real Tool with Neville Smith scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Tahj Malone added 9 points and 6 rebounds and Halford Barzey also scored 9 with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Game one had also been a rout, 63-39. Albert Hatchett scored 23 points, Barzey a double of 12 points and 12 rebounds and Shadim Rubaine 10 points as the Bulls pulled away in the 3rd quarter to secure the early series lead.

The other Development League Playoff between Junior Mega Mix and the ESHS Blue Rams is tied at 1-1 after the Mix won game 1, 43-29 and then lost game 2, 30-28.

In the Juniors, the Hawks and the Young Gunners are still waiting to find out who they will play in the semi finals as both series between the Junior Mystics/Young Starz and Skulls/Another Level are all square with one to play.

The Skulls won game 1, 58-50 on the back of Shamoii and Jomorii Dagou who scored 22 and 17 points respectively. Shamoii also picked up 15 rebounds and brother Jomorii, 9. For Another Level, Rowhaun David scored 15 points and Revaughn Garraway, 14. Game 2 saw Another Level bounce back into contention with a 76-69 win. Garraway scored 20 points, Kevin Bodkin, 17 and Terrique Wattley, 11. In reply, the Dagou boys again led the fight with 35 points between them as well as 23 rebounds and 12 blocks.

Playoff action continues tonight July 18, 2012 at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex.
