ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- While some National Democratic Party (NDP) politicians like controversial Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn (AL) continue to talk down the tremendous achievements and hard work of Virgin Islanders to build this country, with him saying they only break the laws because they ‘born here’ and we could no longer have laws to protect locals, Virgin Islanders continue to make their contributions both in the private and public sectors.

Hon Smith: Locals not ready yet!

Premier and Leader of Government Business Dr The Hon D. Orlando Smith (AL) had also joined in the insult of Virgin Islanders by saying they are “not qualified” when asked about why so many United Kingdom nationals are taking so much top positions in the public sector that locals could fill.

In fact, Premier Smith went on to say “I am concerned yes, that we are not at the point where we have the capacity to fill all these positions……”

When pressed, he told the local media, “In the VI, what we have been speaking about for a long time is succession planning and that is a process to ensure that, as time goes by, VIslanders will be more prepared to fill these positions where they are not now prepared,” added Premier Smith.

However, locals continue to fill top posts all over the Territory despite the negative talk and lack of confidence in locals from Hons Smith and Walwyn.

Mr Fahie is ‘top dog’ @ Caribbean Cellars

Caribbean Cellars Limited has announced that indigenous Virgin Islander Kevin S. Fahie will take over as the General Manager of its VI operations, effective December 1, 2016.

After four years in different roles at the Lower Estate, Road Town, Tortola Caribbean Cellars Limited’s main office, from Sales and Marketing Coordinator to Marketing and Commercial Manager, Mr Fahie has been promoted to the top post.

He will become the new General Manager in charge of all VI Operations with over 27 employees. The current Manger will move to a new role and will now report to Mr Fahie. The new General Manager, Mr Fahie, will report directly to the President of the Company in St Thomas, United States Virgin Islands.

Mr Fahie, who is also a Member of the BVI Ports Authority Board and has been active with the NDP youth movement, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Management with a minor in Marketing from California State University at Northridge.

Speaking exclusively to our newsroom today November 13, 2016 Mr Fahie said he was delighted with his recent promotion and “I will do my best to full fill the mandate of the company and will continue working with the team to serve our customers in the most professional way.” The incoming General Manager also praised Caribbean Cellars for having the faith and “confidence in giving a local an opportunity as this also speaks volumes about the company…”

Background of Company

In 1983 A.H. Rise opened its doors as a beverage wholesale company in the Virgin Islands (UK). In 1999, the company brought Fort Wines and Spirits, and the recently expanded company was renamed Caribbean Cellars Ltd, and described itself as a progressive and dynamic company.

Caribbean Cellars offers a wide selection of Wines, Spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.

@captain I agree with you 110%. That's a reason why I donly what I do in terms of workingredients hard and doing a good job. Something it can be more proof that locals can do the job and do it right.

Be careful what you ask for because new owners tend to down size. The managers are not who they get rid of if the business is successful.

So why not train them? How many locals working in-house that can be trained/crosstrained. LOCALS NOT READY YET. What an insult to your people. How many of you in seats that not ready yet but yall have the position for the sake of a paycheck. Woulda sound better if you had lied and stated that "He was the most qualified of all the applicant's that applied". Waste of nine months

Dr Smith had a total of 8 years now to train personnel. Didn't he get government training, why can't he, in his turn continue to train his people in the skills that are needed? While he was at it he should have gotten himself some training in financial management. Training personnel is an on going process; an integral part of management.

I will agree that we need to do some switching up of managers.. There is a right manager for every position within the company.. We just need to be objective, be fair. Be willing to try something different. If what we have ain working. We will be OK. RTW is the best. Thank God for RTW.

Breaking news: I voted 100% National Democratic Party in 2015(won't happen again)....I personally do not have much regard for anyone who tries to belittle the people of this territory: for those we voted for to stand up in public and condem our people is poor judgment and let me add this; some of those doing the finger pointing were given an opportunity when they returned home fresh out of medical school and other learning institutions(they had no work experience but were given an opportunity to develop this territory NOW they have a set of F*[k to chat about our sons and our daughters: I can not side with anyone who seeks to deprive our people opportunity in their own country and I make this comment without fair or favour because it is wrong and disgraceful(please tell me where our sons, our daughters, our grandsons and our granddaughter must go to survive)...our fore parents pave the way for all of us now those we voted into public office are depressing the people!!!!

thumbs up. Same here. and before he insult us with dignity, Donald Trump says we are not ready yet. Some people go to school to further their education but it's not the case for everyone. Some work with an organization long enough to be able to cross train (when you working in a business with more than one offices and you train the employees each other's job so that at any given time a position becomes available, one can apply for it leaving that other position open and available to another new young an uprising suiter). But we will never be ready yet while many are placed in the government sector not because of their experience but because of who we know or the favors we can give. We will forever have alot of non professionalism behind position and titles. Bosses who are afraid to discipline employees because it's friend thing that got them the position, bosses cannot get employees to do their command because they forgot that they employed them so they say "I ain't able, I can't force nobody to do what they don't want to do". Businesses and Offices shall soon be ran from the streets and in cars and over phones while everyone stay at home and collect the paycheck
