ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The telecommunications giant Digicel BVI announced late Friday July 21, 2017 that its Head of Business Operations, Mr Kevin R. Gordon has been named its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Virgin Islands (VI) branch.

It means that the Jamaican national will be the first black to hold the post since the company started its operations in the VI in November 2007, some 9 years ago. He will have full oversight of all its local operations.

In a press statement, the company said Mr Gordon "brings a wealth of experience to his new role having joined the team in 2015 as Head of Business Operations."

In his new role, the CEO promised to "listen to our customers and putting their feedback into action is very important to us."

Trouble ahead?

Mr Gordon will take over the company at a time when there have been local layoffs, with many employees given options with packages to leave the company. In addition, Digicel (BVI) has slashed its advertising budget, leaving many of the events they used to sponsor in the VI out in the cold.

The public, elected officials and the media continue to complain about all the telecommunications companies operating in the VI market for poor internet service, drop calls and high rates.
