ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands News Online can confirm that Virgin Islander Kevin C. Smith aka 'OJ' will soon be appointed the new Commercial and Operations Director of Digicel BVI. Mr Smith will be replacing Ms Su Thomas who recently left the company after her contract came to an end.

According to Digicel, Mr Smith will be responsible for the development and implementation of Digicel BVI’s commercial strategy.

It was also confirmed that he will be taking up the role from December 9, 2013.

Chief Executive Officer of Digicel BVI Mr Declan Cassidy, when contacted, said the company has every confidence that the choice of hiring Mr Smith will go well as he has a very impressive track record. “Over the past twelve months, Digicel has gone against the trend and hired many new workers to its dynamic team, and it is pleased to add Kevin Smith to its growing roster,“ said the CEO.

He also said Mr Smith brings with him a wealth of experience in managing large customer-facing operations. Currently Director of Trade and Consumer affairs, Mr Smith developed a number of key strategic policies to assist business start-ups in the territory.

“Prior to his current role in Government, he served as Postmaster General at BVI Post. During this time, he sped up mail delivery and widened the range of services available, taking the postal service to the next level.” said Cassidy.

Mr Kevin 'OJ' Smith also contested the 2011 General Elections in the 3rd District but was defeated by Hon. Julian Fraser RA.

I guess these people are now realizing that employment within government is not all that, everybody fighting for the same positions. The pay that most of them with big positions get is apalling. There are much more meaningful positions within the private sector. Congrats and all the best!

Well Government don't value good people so go figure. Private enterprise will continue to scoop up the good people. Sad.

Congrats OJ! I know you will perform good in whatever it is you put your mind to. Welcome back to the private sector as the public sector does not seem to appreciate your true worth and you avoid the victimization. Next time you go public sector again it will be as a representative of the people.

School children had already said this anyway so it was just a matter of it coming out in the news. You cannot keep a smart man down no matter how much you try. We have a lot more in the territory but we just have to give them a chance to prove themselves. School children them say we need to watch the one in the 7th and 8th. Them say that they starting their own party. School children never lies. Watch it NDP. You stand to loose two good men when this comes to light.

I'll put politics to the side. I think this is a great opportunity for him. Locals usually don't get good positions in international companies! Thumbs up!
