Kelly finishes 3rd in heat @ World Indoor C/ships

PORTLAND OREGON, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands sprinter Ashley Kelly had a strong first half race but was unable to hold on to her early lead as she ended up third in her 400m heat at the 15th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon, USA moments ago, March 18, 2016.

The race also saw the race favourite, Chrisann Gordon of Jamaica crash out after trying to squeeze in the inside lane behind Kelly and apparently got clipped.

The heat, which saw the first two automatically qualifying for this evening’s semi-finals, was won by Justyna Swiety of Polandin 54.25, with Iveta Putalova of Slovakia taking the other automatic qualifying spot in 54.53.

Kelly ran 54.95, below her Season’s Best of 53.01, and was unable to qualify as one of the four fastest losers.

The Virgin Islands is being represented by two athletes at the championships and is the first time the territory is being represented by more than one athlete at the World Indoor Championships.

Tahesia G. Harrigan-Scott, for so long the sole flag bearer for the VI at World Meets and who is in her fourth championships, will contest the 60m dash on Saturday March 19, 2016.

    Those European chicks on steroids again...When ever you see they start winning those short distance races 100, 200m 400m they back to their same old antics from the 80s something new that can't be found using normal drug tests again.
