ASPS mounting a serious charge for BD Basketball Inter Primary School League Honours with a big win over St Georges Primary Sch. over the weekend.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Althea Scatliffe leapfrogged St. Georges Primary School in the BD Basketball Inter Primary league standings, thanks to Kedrick Matthews’ 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 23-10 victory on Saturday October 29, 2011.

Althea Scatliffe Primary School (ASPS) made it 2 wins from 2 games to move into second place in Zone A with the win although they remain behind Leonora Delville Primary (LDPS), who have 3 wins and 1 loss in top spot.

Dante Vanterpool scored 5 points and also had 10 rebounds for ASPS whilst Chaz Fahie scored 4 for St Georges and Eduardo Vargas picked up 12 rebounds.

In the clash of the top two teams, ASPS overcame LDPS 23-6, thanks to another 11 points from Matthew. He also picked off 6 rebounds and Renrick Mossack Jnr. scored 5 points with 4 steals. For LDPS, Terelle Grant scored 4 points with 4 rebounds and 6 steals.

St Georges Primary bounced back from their defeat to ASPS with a crushing 17 – 0 victory over Enis Adams Primary School (EAPS) with Eduardo Vargas scoring 6 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Quammic Turnbull added 4 points and 5 rebounds.

LDPS were then the recipients of a 20 – 0 forfeiture from EAPS.

In Zone B, Cedar remains unbeaten and in 1st place following weekend victories over Isabella Morris Primary School (IMPS) 22 – 13 and 22-7 against Alexandrina Maduro Primary School (AMPS).

Against AMPS, Braeden Chalwell top scored with 6 points, with Kai Turnbull, Juden Chalwell and Kai Chalwell all scoring 4 each. Turnbull added 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Machel Coplin scored 3 points with 3 rebounds and 3 steals for AMPS.

Juden Chalwell scored 8 in the win over IMPS for whom Johangel Rodriquez scored all 13 points.

Second in Zone B are Willard Wheatley Primary who also beat IMPS by 9-4. Shaqueal Frett scored 5 points with 6 steals and D’Quan Christopher added 4 points and 5 rebounds. They missed out on their chance to go top though, losing the local “derby” to Francis Lettsome Primary 16-15.

The game see-sawed throughout each quarter, with first WWPS taking an early advantage and then Francis Lettsome Primary School (FLPS) clawing their way back into the game. It was all square at the half. WWPS then took a 1 point lead into the 4th, before being pipped at the buzzer. Dante Mitchum top scored for FLPS with 5 points and Christopher for WWPS also with 5. He added 9 rebounds.

Joyce Samuel got their league campaign back on track with an impressive 16-11 win over AMPS. The combination of Shauliqua “Pebble” Fahie and Rafique Manning proving an irrestible force. Fahie top scored with 7 points and Manning added 14 rebounds. For AMPS, Germarie Brumant scored 2 points and picked up 7 rebounds.

In other Zone B action, AMPS condemned IMPS to a third defeat in 3, winning 20 – 4 thanks to Jevonte Barnes’ 8 points. Brumant added 6 and for IMPS, William Corea scored 2 with 6 rebounds and K’Jae Thompson finished with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 5 steals.
