GREAT HARBOUR, Jost van Dyke, VI- More than 40 residents of Jost van Dyke (JvD) have signed a petition urging the Government of the Virgin Islands to investigate Mr David Dietrich, the former Director of Operations at Foxy’s Tamarind Bar and close friend of Mr Philiciano O. Callwood MBE aka ‘Foxy’.

Mr Dietrich, an American citizen, has been accused by the Callwood family of trying to con 'Foxy' of his money and land; however, Mr Dietrich has said he was only looking into the best interest of Mr Callwood aka ‘Foxy’, who he said feels cheated by his own family.

Petition Signed

According to the petition signed by some 45 residents of the JvD community, Mr Dietrich is a threat to the Sister Island’s tourism economy.

It says, “We the undersigned, residents of Jost Van Dyke are concerned about the negative effect that Mr David Dietrich, [an] employee of Foxy’s Tamarind Bar, has had upon our island’s economy and community. We believe that he is abusing his power and creating a situation of confusion and chaos at Foxy’s that has already resulted in negative information be publicized about our island’s tourism economy. We request that the government of the Virgin Islands investigate this situation immediately.”

It should be noted that Mr Dietrich has verbally and publicly resigned as Director of Operations of Foxy’s Tamarind Bar at a press conference at Maria’s by the Sea on Monday, October 14, 2019.

At the press conference, Mr Dietrich pledged to seek legal recourse against at least one of Foxy’s sons, Mr Gregory A. Callwood, who he alleged, threatened the lives of his family and himself. He also alleged being physically assaulted by Mr Callwood.

In a video made public by Dietrich, it shows him following Callwood while they were engaged in an argument. The video also shows Theresa Callwood aka ‘Tessa’, the wife of Foxy, throwing a bottle of water in the direction of Dietrich.

Mr Callwood is also seen attempting to stop Mr Dietrich from recording the incident.

Foxy’s staff members allege ‘violation of rights’

Meanwhile, another petition was also signed by employees of Foxy’s Tamarind Bar requesting the Government of the Virgin Islands (VI) to launch an investigation into alleged violation of their rights as employees.

Mr Dietrich; however, has since resigned as Director of Operations.

In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Labour Janice I. F. Rymer, dated October 12, 2019, a copy of which was secured by this news entity, ten employees signed the petition which reads in part, “I have been employed at Foxy’s Tamarind Bar since 1995. Along with the other undersigned employees, we believe that Mr David Dietrich, whose job title is listed as Director of operations at Foxy’s, is infringing upon our right to a safe and healthy working environment.”

The document, which is also copied to the Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), accuses Dietrich of using fear and intimidation, “And we can provide examples of ways that we believe he is sabotaging the safe functioning of Foxy’s.”

Pleading for the government’s help of ridding the company of Dietrich, who has been in the territory for approximately seven years and employed at other establishments prior to being with Foxy’s, they said, “Our livelihoods depend upon the day-to-day functioning of Foxy’s Tamarind Bar and we use our income to support ourselves and our families.”

“We hereby petition the BVI Department of Labour to launch an investigation into Mr Dietrich’s employment and to consider the possibility that the government needs to intervene and terminate his employment in support of the safety well-being of other employees,” says the document signed by 10 people.

He has been sucked in by a wolf in sheep's clothing. He is very vulnerable now. In the final analysis his family is his family, they are most likely the ones who will be expected to care for him an should be looking out for him. The outsider has divided to conquer. I hope he does not succeed.
