‘Just answer the Opposition's questions!’ – Donald E. de Castro
He made the call during his monthly radio programme Straight Talk aired last evening April 8, 2015 on ZBVI 780 AM.
“Another thing that bothers me is that this Government was in Opposition at one time. Now they are in Government and the present Opposition asks a lot of questions,” he said.
“Now there is no such thing as a stupid question but there are stupid answers,” he said.
“When those questions are submitted to you in writing weeks and months ahead of time, it gives time for them to research and get the answers for the public,” he said.
He said that while it might be one or two or three members of the Opposition asking questions, there are thousands of people whom those Opposition persons represent and who would like to hear the answers to the questions.
“Now I might not agree with all of the questions that are asked but they should be answered. If you re put there to represent us you should answer those questions,” said de Castro. “They are finding all sorts of excuses and reasons not to answer the questions,” he said.
Avoiding straightforward questions
“We need to wake up. It is shameful that they cannot answer straight questions in a straightforward [manner]. That is why many of them don’t like to come on this show because I like to ask straightforward questions to get straightforward answers,” he said.
Of recent, the Government has been doing its best to avoid answering questions and providing documentation requested in those questions, from shifting the question and answer segment to the end of the sitting to citing confidentiality clauses or Cabinet handbook as to why certain documentation could not be provided in the House of Assembly as requested by the Opposition.

The NDP used the questions technique and will continue to do so but one must be real. Close to 100 questions in a single session raises questions!! Is this an attempt to get information or to spread misinformation. Over twenty five questions for a Ministry to answer in 4 days. Then nit pic on supplementary is disingenuous. But worse to have a talk show host spouting off about the months to answer the question - tells of the state of information in our country.
