ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- We’ve all heard the saying, Tortola has no night life. However, when the Deh Pon Vibes show on JTV Channel 55 begged to defer and decided to promote the local hot spots at the Tortola Pier Park, never did they anticipate that they would be halted in their tracks.

According to our information, the organisers of the show had made contact with some of the popular businesses based at the multimillion dollar tourism facility and they were all excited to be part of the show, which is viewed across a wide spectrum of viewers in the Virgin Islands and globally.

However when the JTV camera crew arrived, security intervened and despite getting the go-ahead from management of the business establishments, insisted that the hot spots should not be the only ones getting the limelight and gave them their marching papers.

This reportedly took place on Friday September 16, 2016.

Who was TPP built for?

Local media personality and Director of Scatos Bus and Party Tours that was being featured on the show, Karl ‘Dub’ Scatliffe said the entire matter irked him and he wanted to, apart from raising awareness, find out who TPP was built for using taxpayers’ money?

“It’s our taxpayer's money that is paying for this place and you are coming and tell us we are restricted from coming and people that paying rent in here can't advertise because you say they can’t advertise?” he asked.

The camera crew was allegedly even threatened to be sued if they proceeded to disobey and he pointed out that he is trying to understand what is the difference between somebody taking out their cell phone and videotaping and using a professional camera?

Scatliffe noted that the security’s arguments were that no one can film on the premises without prior permission and the TPP is private even though it is open to the public.

Leasing and Marketing Manager of Tortola Pier Park Meslyn M. Allan told this news site that videotaping is allowed in the park; however, persons must notify the management of TPP.

This news site also made contact with Andrea Harvey, the programme’s host on JTV, who confirmed the incident.

It was in March of this year that a local musician, who said he had been providing musical entertainment at the cruise pier for the past 16 years, mounted a protest at Tortola Pier Park, claiming that he was not being allowed to play his music there.

David G. Smith had alleged that he had not been allowed to work since the current tourist season opened.

According to Smith, the person in charge of the scheduling is picking and choosing who to play.

Allan had said that that the Tortola Pier Park is an equal opportunity employer and that Smith was being unreasonable in his requests.

Had your company been one of the ones not being covered, you would be singing a different tune! I completely agree with TPP on this. Yes, Taxpayers paid for the pier park, all the more reason that ALL businesses should be highlighted. I'm not sure why this is a headline. #RulesAreRules.

If it's a RULE, have the "no camera/video allowed sign posted on the premises." A Gov't in the MOONLIGHT always want to spring these things up on you whenever it's a covenience for them. Just like throwing Fraser off the "One VI" Festival Stage. "Do as I say and not what I do," mentality, this government have. "But time longer than twine."

There are rules that must be followed to avoid chaos in a society. TPP is no different. Next time, just get the proper clearance. No need to fight. After all, we are supposed to be an orderly society. Jah Bless all.

Not TPP its the Drill Sergeant Lady who run the place like its her private property. If a business cannot advertise then they need to sue TPP for poor performance in them not making money. Its just a shopping center not a prison.

They don't want the voting public to see how empty they park is everyday they making up rules and making repairs it still looks like a construction site! They are now demanding that we open 6days a week the park in a host town most days and you have to pay staff to sit and do nothing. Tpp have a problem with everything and want to keep some of the tenants down wile other tenants do as they please. They have now stopped o having an employee walk around and mark I a book what time each store opens and closes what they need to do is walk around and ask how much we making when no ship is in ! They need to understand they can't hold a the stores to the same rules food and beverage will sell no matter what ,stores like the make up place is geared to locals mainly and we all know Bvi woman and make up . We are operating under a dictatorship.

Sad to see that something as simple as obtaining the proper permission before filming on the property is such a big issue. If they had applied and were denied then that would have been another topic to speak about, but just showing up at a facility to film without the management or organization knowing is simply the wrong approach. See what puzzles me is this, If some young person who decided they wanted to shoot a music video there, and had all sorts of reckless behavior, promoting sex, drugs, and all other things portraying the BVI as some pitstop to hell there would have been an outcry as to Who gave the permission for such a thing to happen, and why was it possible to happen in the first place? Who is managing the facility? What are the security doing if this type of thing was able to happen so easily. There would be so much blah blah blah going on if such a thing happens. The organization like any put steps in place to regulate and to have insight as to what is happening and yet people cant take their heads from up there political party blindness and see that its protocol. Another case and point is, here in the BVI when we get to the customs and immigration area, we disregard the signs about usage of cell phones etc but the min we enter a US port EVERY MAN JACK MAKES SURE THAT THEIR DEVICE IS NOT IN THEIR HANDS TO ATTRACT ANY UNWANTED ATTENTION. We respect the rules when abroad, but feel entitled to do what we want, how we want here. All this BS yet again because " is we money so we can do wa we want" " I born here" " govermnet don't look out for we and all kinda sh**T"... Its one thing when you are filming on your phone, its a totally different thing when you are advertising the property on an commercial level.

"Inconsistency" is what's killing laws, rules and regulations in the VI. Some people can do what they want and others cannot, and you can not deny that.

Peebles Hospital, Admin Complex and other places are open to the public, but does that mean you can waltz in and start videotaping without getting the requisite approvals? What if there were construction works going on at the pier? Surely simply notifying pier management so they can be ready for the shoot would have made sense? This thing about we from here and we can do what the hell we want will kill us. I don't have all the facts but how hard is it to notify management of your intentions to tape at the pier?

I have 2 stores at tpp and if john public only know half of what we have to endure. I don't think tpp realy understands how business works. I have businesses outside the park and have never dealt with the kind of bs they dish out . they want to tell you how long you HAVE to stay open for when the TPP gift store ONLY opens when a ship is in .
