ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – “Youth, when properly trained, are capable of contributing much more than you might think to our society.” This is according to current Junior Minister of Tourism, Mr Bryan Leue.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the cruise pier expansion project held on May 11, 2014 Leue said the project opens up huge opportunities for the youth of his generation to get more involved with the tourism industry of the Virgin Islands (VI).

He argued that the cruise pier expansion project was coming in the ‘nick of time’ considering the estimated twenty-five percent of cruise passengers travelling with children under the age of 18 and more cruise ships carrying a greater number of passengers.

“This expansion project will provide the perfect opportunity for our young people to not only secure new skills and knowledge but also to demonstrate those skills in a very real-world environment and become exposed and experienced in an industry that shapes their future and this Territory’s future,” Leue stated.

According to Leue the project has huge implications for persons coming to visit the Territory as well as the local populace.

A grandson of the late former Chief Minister Cyril B. Romney, who was described as a pioneer in the local cruise industry, seventeen-year old Leue said the cruise industry itself has blossomed into becoming an integral part of the tourism industry which is one of the VI’s main economic pillars.

“As we continue to develop in this industry, we must not forget that we have a whole generation of youth, young people, to support and provide opportunities to, many of whom can and should be involved in the tourism industry,” he stated.

He credited his family, the Romneys, for his first involvement in the cruise industry and stated that he could not have become Junior Minister of Tourism if it were not for the help of some of his family members.

I appreciate all of the good comments, guys! (Yes, this is the real Bryan Leue talking).
And, directed towards username "1", I wrote the speech, with some input from family. But the wording was mostly from my own mind.

I applaud your enthusiasm and sincerity. But there are some questions some may have and what it looks like may not be intended. If completely honest, I would argue that you have been groomed to become part of the cruise ship industry because it is in your blood. It is familiar to you. Nothing wrong with that, But is it possible that you have not considered the bigger picture or others' arguments? Your family is deeply involved with this industry and it would benefit them greatly. It is business. My issue is there is a bigger question to consider, that of social and environmental impact, loss of territorial identity, loss of autonomy depending on the signed agreement that no one has seen yet. And all this goes to how the development was handled to begin with. It has repeatedly said repeatedly, that it is not the development itself. Something has to go there. It is the HOW, WHY, WHAT, and public input. I you have an eye on politics, young man, I hope you think of both sides so you can understand both issues. That is what makes a good politician, boss and leader. thank you and good luck.

And this article is a prime example in the making but I'm not buying it because it takes more than just "a speech" to convince an intelligent person. Money and power isn't going to sway me....
