Jr. Bayside Blazers advanced to championship game; Battle between Young Starz & High Speed

DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI: History was made yesterday October 13, 2018, where for the first time in the Hon Julian Fraser, Save the Seed National Basketball League, both a senior and junior team with the same name, owners and management will play in both Division Championship.

The Junior Bayside Blazers sealed the deal in a clean sweep, when they defeated Beast Mode 60 to 38, earning a place in the champion games set to begin on Friday, October 19, 2018, in the best out of 3.  They will join their counterpart the senior Bayside Blazers who locked up the deal last weekend to earn the right to play Championship series against Ray D. Victor’s Pure Playaz.

Jr Bayside Blazers Clean Sweep

In the Junior Division games last evening, Stephano K. Paul had 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Jiliani S. Leonard earned 13 points with 1 rebound and 2 steals. Coming next for the Jr Bayside Blazers was Donaldson N. Layne with 11 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal while D’Maria E. Parillon had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 1 steal. Jr. Bayside Blazers team Captain Isaiah E. Thomas came in with 4 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals.

The defeated Beast Mode came in with Kymal Panchoo who had 11 points, 3 pointers, 4 rebounds and 1 block. Shaquon George had 8 points, 2 three-pointers, 2 rebounds and 1 block, whereas Aaron Williams came in with 7 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block.

In the last game it was a battle between Young Starz coached by Ronald Simmonds aka ‘Gola’, and High Speech Coached by Brian S. Brewley aka ‘Bash’ two of the veteran coaches in Virgin Islands Basketball.  High Speed was fighting for their lives and came out hungry to stay alive. In the end, High Speed was able to make it a tie in the best out of three defeating Young Starz 59 to 38.  High Speed’s Kimmoy Caines netted 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals with 1 assist. Diorys Joseph had 16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assist. Additionally, Javin Wattley came in with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist.

Do or die High Speed vs Young Starz

In their trying effort, Young Starz’s Elroy Bollers had 15 points, 6 rebounds,  5 steals and 2 assist, and T’Quan Stoutt had 8 points 4 rebounds and 2 steals. KleJuan Barzey had 5 points, 1 three-pointer, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist.

Meanwhile, the final game of the Junior Division playoffs is scheduled for this evening Sunday, October 14, 2018, at 6:30 PM at the Save the Seed Energy Centre, in Duff’s Bottom on the main Island of Tortola. There are also plans for an all-star Game this evening according to the League’s Commissioner Derrick R. Varlack.

The winner of this evening game between Young Starz and High Speed will take on the Junior Bayside Blazers for Championship title in the best out of 3 that begins on Friday, October 19, 2018.
