BEEF ISLAND, VI- An accident prone day is what March 18, 2017 could be described as in the Virgin Islands since, after two SUVs flipped in separate accidents this morning, two jets came into contact on the tarmac of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport Runway on Beef Island.

According to reports, the incident occurred some time around 5:00 PM.

Details are yet sketchy as to the circumstances surrounding the accident; however, according to a source at the airport, two planes came into contact with each other.

The source could not exactly say if there were any damages to the jets but described the incident as minor.

"It was a minor incident and no one was hurt," the source related to this news site.

Airport authorities could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.

The govt will be pressing hard to get the funds for the airport built, these jets and their insurance companies will be sueing big time. I'm sorry for the handlers and who every just caused these million dollar jets to be grounded.

I can tell you this, this was really a minor incident, the wind was reported rather high today which could be the cause of the collision. The wing
tip of one aircraft just touching the nose cone of another is not to cause to ground to aircraft.

No reason to ground the aircraft until both are examined and deemed to be safe to operate. Every incident that involves an aircraft regardless to how minor is reported to the relevant authority. It is then documented and Investigated. It now becomes part of that aircraft's record for future reference. The matter is not treated as we do our vehicle..get in a minor fender bender, get out look at our vehicle see no visible damage to our paint work, shake hands and drive off. The key word in aviation is SAFETY. Being an expert and all that you should know that.

    Who was directing the plane?

Departing private jets are not directed, when departing, only given a "clear to taxi" from the tower. And YES, it is not as if a car has a little scratch. A minor dent to a plane can cause to change their performance and can in a worse scenario cause an accident.

Carelessness should not be a pretext to defend expansion of airport.

Have you ever thought about, what if these jets stop coming here? They are the ones that keep us going, paying their jet fees and all. Clearly it didn't have space to park some jets... now look what it has caused because lack of space! You have to start looking at the big picture. Improve facility to have more room to park jets and other insurance reason.

Rich folk sustain the economy of the VI,in banking and in tourism. They could simply find another airport and another plane, another boat, another port and if they do then that is " your problem".

Pilot error has nothing to do with government progress. Also to those of you who think otherwise, these were just accidents, which happen all the time. There is no super natural forces behind them....SMH!

We need the airport expansion. We need it badly.. I trust the Chinese to deliver on time and on budget...We need space more and more private jets are coming every day. We out of space now. Those space cost alot of money.. nothing is Free. . The Airport is a good investment..

You are correct that the expansion needs to be done, but if you are relying on the Chinese to do it on time, on budget and properly, then you are in for a shock.
I have seen the work they do in Costa Rica, Canada, Ghana and a few other places, and they deliver nothing but low quality!
The airport will need a lot of repairs over the next few years. mark my words on that one!
