Jamie Foxx, Chris Brown frontrunners to headline 2012 Music Fest!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Although the Cane Garden Bay Music Fest Committee is now defunct, Virgin Islands News Online was informed that a new committee is expected to be elected in the upcoming weeks and that two powerhouses - Jamie Foxx and Chris Brown - are on its radar to headline this year’s Music Fest.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source close to the organization stated that the Committee was dissolved and the old members are awaiting the return of Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith to hold discussions and after that a new Committee will be formed.

“The Committee was set up in a way that after three years new election would have to be held. That’s the protocol,” the source explained. “And I think the former president Daniel Cline along with Al Henley and Carnel Cline will be the ones who will be speaking with the Premier.”

However, despite the defunct group, plans are already underway to secure the services of a new promoter, who is expected to bring some exciting artistes for the three-day musical extravaganza held in Cane Garden Bay.

“The promoter has a lot of connections and two of the names floating around are Jamie Foxx and Chris Brown. Either of those guys with their sex appeal will draw a large crowd like what Trey Songz did last year,” the source revealed, and added that by the end of February the public will have a good idea of the plans.

This will be the 12th year for the event which has seen the likes of En Vougue, the late Lucky Dube, Roberta Flax, Luciano, Wyclef and Damian ‘Gong’ Marley, among others.

Over the years, Government, BVI Tourist Board, Road Town Wholesale and LIME have been the major sponsors.

Thank you, could not have said it better "air force one" half these imbeciles always about bring this and that and when you look they playing to an empty area. Why? Because although it is nice to envision, no one is really trying to attend those concerts or checking those artists. Ask that same poster "Jokers" who they have on their ipod and watch their hypocritical answer.

Jamie is an entertainer no a singer. Chris Brown was banned a couple years ago, what makes this year different. Music fests are known for having mostly old music that we missed hearing!!! What is this committee doing!!! We need to hear Gladys Knight, the Wailers, Beres Hammond, Aretha Franklyn, Dionne Warwick, Motown Groups, Smokey Robinson, Kenny Rogers, Tracy Chapman, Bonnie Tyler!!! Plus you need to have artists that will please an international audience not just here on Tortola.

That doesn't sound too bad. For the Reggae act, bring Morgan Heritage, Ziggy Marley or Freddie McGreggor and his son Stephen "The Genius" We don't want no rubbish acts, we want decent music we can rock away to. Regardless of who the reggae act is, please make sure that our local acts are given a chance and MAKE SURE Shine-I opens for the main act, this man's music is AWESOME! I heard 4 of his songs from his new album and trust me, if this man doesn't make it big off this one, something wrong! VP records need to get on board ASAP! Also, bring back the all-day entertainment like when Frank had it first. Action start from 10am so that families can come down to the beach, spend some time, money etc. Not this 'night' only crap! Put out the line-up early, move it back to the original spot on the beach, bring quality acts (don't break the bank!) and we should be good to go! Don't put it back in that foul cage please, it's really sickening! With all the engineers we have here something must be workable to set up the stage by the beach for just 3days! The boaters and people walking along the beach made the music fest what it was!

they need to bring artist that have more than one good song so we can enjoy our monies worth and got us paying arm and leg just to only hear bout two to three songs and done. nah that ain't right we need artist that can come and give us ah good two to three hours of enjoyment and not forty five minutes, that is just killing the hole thing.

Don't allow any of those Clines on the Music Fest Committee. They're the ones who ruined the fest and stuck it in that unbearable sweat box by the cemetary. Beg Frank to be in charge and creat a committee of impartial persons to oversee. No way should the landowners be the ones in charge. Most importantly, put the fest back on the beach so the entire community can be involved. Who cares if a few boats sneak in for free, that's a risk many venues face.
