Jamaican Atkinson bags 3 medals in Doha
The 28-year-old short course phenomenon maintained her unbeaten run in the 50-metre breaststroke and claimed a second place finish in the 200m breaststroke.
Her winning time in the 50m swim was 29.42s, well clear of Denmark’s Rikke Pederson, who was almost a full second behind in 30.32. Austria’s Lena Kreundel was much farther back, finishing third in 31.24s.
Atkinson completed her campaign with a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke touching in 2:26.10, behind Pederson who won in 2:18.66. Austria’s Lisa Zaiser was third in 2:28.57.
Having enjoyed the Doha cluster coming away with two gold and a silver medal, Atkinson returns to her base in Florida to resume training with her club South Florida Aquatics in preparation for the third cluster that begins in Beijing, China on November 10, 2017.
