ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Group Stages of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Women’s Championship concluded on Thursday July 11, 2014 with Jamaica set to play the USVI and the Dominicana (Dominican Republic) facing Trinidad in the semifinals this evening July 11, 2014 in the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

Jamaica, led by Ex Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Player Simone Edwards, defeated Trinidad and Tobago, 49 -35, and finished the first round of the CBC Championship on top of Group B. The last game of the third day of the 2014 CBC Championship for Women featured the two teams that qualified from Group B to the Semi-Finals.

The game began with a 7- 3 run by the team led by Learie Sandy, but the Jamaicans quickly  tied the game at 7 and from that point the rhythm of the game belonged to the  Jamaica, who took a 6 point lead, 15 – 9, at the end of the first quarter.

Jamaica’s lead continued to rise throughout the second quarter and reached 10 points at the end of the first half, Jamaica 27 – Trinidad and Tobago 17. The top scorer of the first half was Jennifer George of Jamaica with 11 points.

The second half, Jamaica took all the time possible in their possessions, subtracting time and staying ahead on the score board to take the victory, 49 -35 and finish the first round of the 2014 CBC Championship on top of Group B. The top scorer for the Jamaican team was Jennifer George with 15 points.

Today, Friday, in the Semi-Finals, Jamaica will face the US Virgin Islands, 6.45pm, whilst the Dominican Republic will face Trinidad and Tobago, at 9.00pm. Also, tomorrow, in the reclassification round, Bahamas will face Guyana at 2.00pm, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines will face Barbados, at 4.00pm.

The USVI lost to Dominica, 61-65, but both teams pipped the Bahamas in the standings and in the other games on Thursday, St Vincent beat Guyana, 73-57 and the Bahamas beat Barbados, 84-59.
