Jahnoi Walters trial resumes 2 years later
Walters is facing seven charges- the unlawful possession of cannabis to the amount of 3.1 grams, reckless and negligent act, wounding a police officer, resisting police arrest, disorderly conduct as allegedly occasioned at Port Purcell and another count of reckless driving.
Back in 2012 when he had made his initial appearance before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards, who is continuing the trial, he had pleaded not guilty.
In refreshing the witness of his testimony previously given, the court heard that the police officer on December 27, 2012 was at the Road Town Police Station when he was made aware of a report about the defendant. This he had told the court had led him to proceed to the Crystal Night Club in Free Bottom and upon his arrival he noticed a vehicle driving out the compound in at a fast rate and he had attempted to stop it but failed.
In summary, the police officer alleged that he saw the vehicle proceeding at such a pace that it was swerving from side to side on the wet road and he decided to follow it. The vehicle was reportedly spotted near the fence of Quomar #2 and the driver, Walters, was still in the driver’s seat. Attempts were made to convince the man to open the door and get out the car but he allegedly failed to cooperate with the police to the extent that he made several remarks to the police officers on the scene.
One thing led to another and the court heard of the accused exiting the car and getting into an altercation with police officers as attempts were being made to arrest him. Walters was accused of hitting one police officer in the chest several times and wrestling with them, resulting in police officers falling to the ground and suffering injuries.
One police officer had allegedly suffered injuries to the extent of having to do more than one expensive medical procedures.
The cops claimed to have searched the vehicle where they found a number of dime bags containing what was believed to be cannabis.
The trial continues on March 18, 2015.
