‘I’ve never withheld anything from anyone’ – Hon Fraser
He was speaking in Sea Cow’s Bay, Tortola following a motorcade.
“I would hear what they say about me behind my back, but you would never know that I heard it,” he said. “You just go and tell others about me and you think they don’t come back to me with it, but you wouldn’t know it,” he said.
He said he was recently accused of being vindictive but he assured that he is “not that kind of guy.”
Honourable Fraser’s image has taken a battering from the members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) on the campaign trail and the level of personal attacks against one person took to new heights for this campaign season.
“I just came by tonight to tell you that if you are going to trade me in just consider that I have been on this job for 16 years consistently. You cannot trade me in for someone who can’t keep a job. Three jobs in three years…,” said Honourable Fraser, referring to Kevin ‘OJ’ Smith, who is running for the NDP in the Third District.
“The last time this man ran against me he lost and he was facilitated with a cushy $95,000 job while I accepted my $45,000 job. That is the difference in us…and when he felt that that wasn’t enough he walked, for a bigger job,” said Honourable Fraser.
From the heart
Honourable Fraser said he knows that what he did for the Third District he did from the heart. “I believe in the masses…I don’t believe in the few benefitting while the masses suffer."
He told supporters that these elections would be the chance the people have to tip the scales back in their favour as over the last three years all of the legislation passed favoured the rich and persons in big business.
During the one hour address, Honourable Fraser addressed issues regarding the establishment of the National Health Insurance, water on Tortola and Biwater and the victimisation of members of the public service, among others.
Hon Fraser succeeded the veteran and outgoing legislator, Hon Ralph T. O'Neal as chairman of the Virgin Islands Party and could be the next premier of the Virgin Islands if his party wins at the polls today, June 8, 2015.
The National Democratic Party (NDP) had focussed much of its attention during the campaign trail trying to paint Hon Fraser as an 'undesirable' leader. One NDP member even stated it would be a "nightmare" if Hon Fraser becomes premier.
Hon O'Neal in particular has consistently defended Hon Fraser, saying that he has worked with him for years and described Hon Fraser as being a "thinker" and possessing a genuine desire to help everyone, especially the "small man".
