ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A man from Greenland, on the eastern end of Tortola, was fined $400.00 after he pleaded guilty before the Magistrate’s Court on September 12, 2019 for having a small quantity of marijuana in his possession.

Rowan Maloney was caught by police with a total of 7.1 grams while driving his motor vehicle in Long Trench on April 20, 2018, at about 9.25 pm.

When he was searched, police found a cigarette and two transparent bags containing green vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis.

“It’s weed officer, I buy that earlier today,” Maloney said when questioned about the find.

He was later arrested and charged for the offence of possession of a controlled drug.

Magistrate Ayanna O. Baptiste-DaBreo said, “I don’t see any reason to impose any terms of imprisonment.”

She then fined him $400 to be paid by October 11, 2019.

The magistrate cautioned Maloney that if he does not pay the fine he will serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP).

Now this is Justice. Locking people up for weed needs to be a thing of the past. Fine Us until our Government find a way to make it permanent to give fines vs Jail for herbs

Why bother in the first place? Weed seems like one of the few things for which there are consequences here.

All this crap is about the war on consciousness...the colonialists want to keep us as mental slaves who are satisfied with crumbs. Everyone needs to wake up and stop supporting the colonialist agenda...they are the real criminals.

Island people have always had weed and they arrest us. United States have weed, and they become Millionaires overnight! What is wrong with our laws? Since Irma's destruction, why don't our islands legalize weed, so when the tourists come and want some (and they always are asking for it) then we can make money too, which will help with recovery and Government getting their taxes. Glad the judge did not arrest him and Government needs to LEGALIZE IT!

I really don't understand how some with a dime bag get sentence to 4 months in prison and some with more weed get a $400. fine. SMFH. This place is twisted.
