PASEA ESTATE, Tortola, VI – If there were any fears in the minds of organizers of this Virgin Islands’ 60th celebration of Festival as to the spending, partying and celebration mode of the diverse peoples of the Virgin Islands, those fears were definitely allayed last night July 18, 2014.

Designed as an event to kick-start the celebrations the BVI Festival and Fairs Committee was nothing but obviously pleased with the massive turnout of persons to usher in the celebrations at the street tramp which got started at De Spot parking lot formerly Beach Club Terrace.

Timing was one thing that was on spot as at the 9 o’clock hour the grills were smoking, bottles popping at the bar and loud welcoming music was in full gear at the Road Town Wholesale Parking lot at Pasea Estate, the location where the tramp was scheduled to end.

Also at the officially set start time of 9:00pm at De Spot Showtime Band was on the big truck and the sounds of their band were echoing through the flat lands and mountainous areas bellowing the call for those in the reach of its sound to come for Festival 60th kick-start treat.

The call was indeed answered as persons were seen coming from all corners of the eastern and central points of Tortola heading to the starting point. Some were all dressed and geared up to join the tramp while others took up strategic positions to be spectators.

With Chairman of the BVIF&FC Mr Marvin ‘MB’ Blyden at the lead and the police traffic control ahead of him the tramp with a mammoth crown pulled off with Showtime’s ‘Sort out’ and tramp with its revelers did there their thing along the route. There was no discrimination as there were babies, tots, teen, and families all as one behind the truck.

As they approached the vicinity of the Delta Petroleum service station members of the organizing committee who were at the RTW Parking lot manning bars and attending other responsibilities downed tools and headed to the street corner to get a glimpse of the spectacle.

Then the clouds took on a heavy dark look giving warning that they were going to burst sending rain down to cool down the tempo. When the rain came everyone ran for the cover of their vehicle, including our reporter. Some ran to the erected tents in the parking lot while others went to the Delta Petroleum Gas Station.

At that time a laughing voice among those heading for cover was heard saying “Rain! That’s no problem them people will continue to the end, don’t mind rain, rain,” in a burst of laughter.

The story of how it all ended will have to be told at another time because as the rain came down with no sign of stopping, Virgin islands News Online stepped on the gas and was home-bound.

Yes it's all of us freedom and there will be the kiss time but do u think it's right to have the little kids out that time of night looking on or tramping. That is irresponsible parenting and that's the very same fact why or society so. Those very kids grow up in this society having no respect for neither God nor man. I agree totally with JQ

When we have kids wucking up at an early age what do you expect of them in the future . Is that out culture if so the Minister needs to review his portfolio. What is Funny is when we have real cultural activities the youth participation is small but when wucking start nuff youths. Pushing back . People preserve what we have before a way of life that seem with right but wrong take us. Just strange

I agree with you wholeheartedly!! This is pure nonsense. No child has any reason to be out at this time of night especially between adult raunchy behaviour.

Tryin got make light of the matter just shows this country is going to hell in a hand basket

I'm sorry Vino. This is not how I wish to celebrate and remember the 60th. It's distasteful and embarrassing. I know young people have to party man but lord we couldn't kick start the thing with some decency and class!!!

all who commenting about kids out late, they were with their parents or adults ,some of you dont even know where your kids are but you on here throwing words at other people. Some of you busy wanting to tell people how to raise their kids n leave your own up to the world. I dont see nothing wrong with persons comin out with their kids when they go coney island they hearing the same calypso/soca music. Some people in the BVI need to wake up n come out the stone age n stop acting like them so holy when many of them have more sins to beg forgiveness for than those who dont see the church door. Everything is a problem, if you dnt wa to see close your eyes, if you dont want to hear the music block your ears and if you are not apart of the parade or assisting with the festivitie...SHUT UP!
