Is the NDP guilty of criminal acts over water woes? Caller to radio show
The male caller to the show said his research shows that despite the bashing of Biwater, if they are given the full ‘go ahead’ from being frustrated by the government, the people on Tortola will have a 24-hour supply of water.
The caller wanted to know if the current NDP administration was engaging in a crime by denying the people access to a 24-hour supply of water.
In response, Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Honourable Julian Fraser RA, (R3) agreed with the caller on the frustration being created by government in not allowing Biwater to fulfill their obligation and also said that, according to the Biwater contract, they have to supply 2.3 million gallons of water per day.
Hon Fraser, one of the architects of ensuring the people of the Virgin Islands have access to 24-hour supply of potable water, however, stopped short of labeling the NDP Government or suggesting their behaviour was a criminal act.
Tears over water woes
Since the VIP left office in 2011, there have been many suggestions by the public and the Opposition that the NDP has been consistently frustrating Biwater and not allowing them to complete the project, resulting in the lack of water on Tortola.
Very recently a caller to a ZBVI radio show complained bitterly about the situation, even stating that he saw someone with tears in their eyes due to their frustration over the lack of water on parts of Ridge Road.
The NDP claimed during their elections campaign in 2011 that they would get rid of the Biwater contract if they got into office. However, like many other promises, they are yet to achieve this.
Another NDP Lie?
The same caller to the VIP’s ‘Let’s talk radio programme also wanted an apology from the Smith Administration for telling the people that the VIP left the country broke. This theory was debunked by the very same Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith who first made the accusation.
In answers to questions by the VIP Opposition in the House of Assembly, Premier Smith presented figures that confirmed that the VIP did not leave the country broke. Both Hon Fraser and Senior VIP member Honorable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) also addressed that information even before the caller had got through to the programme.
The show was hosted by VIP President Carvin Malone.

Well, sell the water to the ships.
I honestly think that the NDP has not been as co-orporative as they should have been; in order to frustrate the company and make the VIP look bad.
