‘Invest in youth!’ – insists Hon Andrew A. Fahie to Gov't
He was speaking in a statement to this news site following the sitting of the Regional Youth Parliament on July 30, 2015 at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, in Paraquita Bay.
“Our youth that debated … on July 30, 2015 at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at HLSCC, Paraquita Bay, Tortola, BVI, did us all proud,” he said.
“They participated in the 11th Regional Youth Parliament for the 40th Conference of the Caribbean, The Americas and The Atlantic Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association,” he said.
He noted that the only reflection of the future “is what we see today.” “With what we saw today in our youth then it is safe to conclude that our future is bright. We must continue to guide and invest in our youth and involve our youth in the development of our Territories.”
He noted that once this is done in a manner that transcends political parties then there will be no limit to what will be achieved in our Region in all respects.
He singled out youth parliamentarian Shaquille Malone who played the role of the First District Representative and whom he thought did an outstanding job as had all of the youth parliamentarians from around the region.
The youth parliamentarians from the Virgin Islands and from around the Caribbean had a vibrant debate on the inclusion of the voice of youth in national policies with the consensus being that more must be done to ensure the voices of youth are duly considered.
The Youth Parliament session is a part of the 40th Conference of the Caribbean, the Americas and the Atlantic Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
The 13-member Government side led by (MOCK) Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Temulji Hughes moved a motion which had as its resolve clause that regional youth parliamentarians agree to engage future generations in representative democracy.
The motion posited that the participation of young people in any representative democracy is essential for the continued growth and strengthening of that democracy.

Demand to see financial records on port and hospital. Demand to see total cost of the Great Wall of Stout High school, you will be amazed. A wall that and as much security to the score as a small dog does to a house. Ask why biwater has been sold to whites. Ask where the money is that's been borrowed from social security.
Ask where the $90 million dollars in cash reserves are and why contractors aren't being paid. And finally ask how much they spent handing out white envelopes so the can continue the cover up of corruption.
If they didn't win the elections all of this would have been exposed.
We need answers, NOW!
They have a program to help youths attend summer camps abroad, but only the insiders know about this program and by the time a youth who has great potential hears about it the money gone because all the insiders/privilege people used up all the money.
That's the reason we don't have a great number of successful athletes here because here is about Name and not your Game!
What has MW done for youth in 8 month since regaining office? I will tell you nothing!!!
I challenge anyone to reply.
If Mr. Fahie cared so much about the youth of the territory, don't you think he (and others) might have made themselves available for this important discussion ABOUT youth involvement in the development of the territory.
Can you name ONE minister or elected representative who was actually there? Go ahead, we're waiting.
THIS IS JUST HOW IT IS GOING TO BE.
Fahie ain't do nada the last 12 years in office. I'm sick of politicians bragging about things that NGO's are capable of doing --- bus programs n afternoon classes are just a fraction of the people's money.... What else did Fahie do that he can really boast about... Other than kill the VIP!
