International Night best so far this year! [Gallery Included]
One thing last night, August 4, 2012 had over the other nights, is the fact that the crowd was present for every performance, one after the other, no one moved, even after word spread that neither Benjai or Teno would be performing.
A Committee member told this news site that Benjai was unable to make it.
The night commenced with the 30-year-old international band, Kassav, taking their fans in a time machine that was much needed by the crowd that varied in age and nationalities. Performing hits from the band’s birth right up to their recently released ones, they took the attention of everyone in the village by will or by force, no questions asked.
With such a cultural vibration and with the band members being from different countries, the expressions of the persons in the crowd whose nationality were represented on the stage was quite a prize. Although the band was not an English speaking one, the waists and hands of all, were moving in a circular motion.
Wasting no time, Shurwayne Winchester took the stage performing all his hits, the ones that excited his fans so much, it triggered a spark in their waist, making them gyrate like it was nobody's business.
Throughout his entire performance, the soca legend kept the same tempo, instructing the audience to throw their hands in the air, and keep them there. The artist proved that he was indeed talented, when he performed songs of almost every genre there is, with the crowd completely at his command.
“Don't stop giving it to me”, “Wine on it”, “Wining Addiction” and so much more, had the crowd captivated in his spell, his words were commands and they quickly abided.
With no time being wasted, Skinny Fabulous of St. Lucia, joined Shurwayne on stage where they performed together. With the hype that Shurwayne brought and with Skinny fabulous joining him, they both took the existing levels of hype to the extreme, they were the drug and the patrons were high as ever; causing excitement beyond their control and madness that needed to be tamed, it was definitely a night that shouldn't have been missed.
They controlled the crowed like they had a hidden control; left, right, back, front, the fans were puppets and Shurwayne and Skinny Fabulous the masters.
Although last night was mainly for the international acts, local 5 times Road March Winner, Show Time Band closed things down in fine style. The minute Show Time took the stage, empty bottles appeared from nowhere. High in the sky, they were waved and shaked, as they eagerly waited for Showtime's recently released single 'Shake Ya Bottle'.The event ended sometime after the hour of 6am, with the crowd screaming and begging for more.
The next event on the Festival line up is The Ms. BVI Pageant later this evening August, 5, 2012, at the Sports Complex in Road Town.
