ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The inaugural Top Notch Track Club Invitational Relay Meet took place on Friday May 27, 2016 on the track at the A.O. Shirley Ground with tremendous excitement and high levels of competition.

Less schools than expected turned up to vie for the cash prizes on offer, but those who made the effort left with plenty of extra funds to spend on their sports programmes, as well as the young athletes, who were awarded specially crafted medals.

“We saw some excellent performances at the Inter Primary School Sports day and Top Notch Track Club has always wanted to establish a Meet, that would carry on year after year and we decided that a Relay Meet would be a perfect way to capture the kids who ran so well and give them further opportunity” commented Angelita Bernard, one of the Organisers.

Ivan Dawson Primary School won the U11 Boys 4 x 100m and Althea Scatliffe Primary then took the Girls U13 4 x 100m, on their way to several victories.

Head Coach and President of Top Notch Track Club, Winston Potter was pleased with what he saw during the evening and felt that the Primary School area was one of the most dynamic in Athletics.

“I really enjoy the Primary School activities and adding the Relay Meet only adds to what is being achieved at that level. Although we will move the dates to nearer the Primary School Meets next year, tonight has been good and had some very exciting races. Helping the Schools with financial rewards is good too and hopefully will lead to them being more and more involved,” he said.

Althea Scatliffe swept the 4 x 200m events and the invitational Open Boys 100m went to Ebenezer Joseph in 11.20 seconds, ahead of Adriano Gumbs, who ran 11.58.

The Sponsors included Caribbean Insurers Ltd., the National Bank of the Virgin Islands, Infinite Solutions, Krazy Threads, JOMA Properties, BCQS, the BVIOC, Dion Stoutt, Dion K. Crabbe and Johnny Maritime Services.

“We are so grateful for their support and with them continuing to back us, this event will always be a Top Notch Meet with more and more schools joining in and it will just get bigger and better,” concluded Bernard.

The races were great, but not well advertised, thus the lack of parental support. Also, not reported on in this story is the medley relay races (there were 3) and which were all lost by Althea Scatliffe but won IDPS, AMPS and FLPS respectively. The "TOP Notch" branded medals no longer appeared to be available to the victors. Why were they packed up and taken home Mr. Potter?

Little Ole Me....what's your point? Why is ASPS so important to point out that they lost? They win relays all the time? Not to my knowledge. I'm just wondering. What's with the medals? Did you run and not receive one? Why the negativity? shhhhhh
