ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Having to lose hours of one’s busy or otherwise scheduled day as a consequence of illegal and irresponsible parking of a motorist is something that many face on a daily basis especially on Tortola.

One woman was not prepared to have it yesterday February 6, 2014, when she turned up to her motor car and found that she was blocked in the parking lot at Craft Alive. Vendors at the Craft Alive block summoned this news site to the scene as they said that its time persons are made examples for being irresponsible in their parking.

“It’s hours that woman was here calling here there and everywhere to get her car out to go about her business. She called DMV give the car number they (allegedly) said they couldn’t give out the owner’s details,” related a concerned bystander.

An officer of the DMV subsequently called back and said that the owner of the car was off island at the time. Overly frustrated the women reportedly went across to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Headquarters and thanks to the cooperative police officer at the reception desk the wreckers were immediately summoned.

While it took in excess of one and a half hour before the wrecker arrived, the motor car bearing the license plate number PI 280 was eventually towed.

The consequences of one motor car parked illegally did not only affect the car that was locked in but for several minutes it caused a huge build-up of traffic along the road-way as the wrecker had no choice but to block off the entrance of the parking lot preventing others from entering.

“One person park wrong and cause all this trouble for so many others. We are glad that whoever the owner of that car is going to feel and learn her lesson and I hope they give her a ticket for illegal parking, obstructing traffic, wrecker’s fee, and everything that matches in the law,” said an observer on the scene.

The area where the car was illegally parked was also in the path of remedial works being done to a drain at Craft Alive by government.

THANK YOU!!!! This is the same thing i've been saying for the longest while. Gov don't study things that are important atall. The number of illegal parking that goes on around here is ridiculous & most times it causes an inconvenience to everybody else. Prime eg, right there across from Fatimas (behind VQ) ppl park there all the time & it's hell when traffic backs up there. the road already small & then when cars are parked there everything gets backed up. Just last week the pet store white bus was parked in such a way it caused the entire traffic to block up in both directions. When the owner was asked why he always parking up the bus there blocking up traffic get it out the way, you wouldn't believe what his answer was "Oh the bus cant go in reverse". You ever hear more foolishness. So basically you have a 1/2 functional vehicle on the road & because you wouldn't get your s**t sort out you going to inconvenience the entire motoring public. It's pure BS & you see these "uniform wearers" as I call them, walking around but exactly what are they doing? The areas where parking creates a lot of congestion they should be there ticketing the drivers. This again is where gov needs to step in. Set up a towing system & when vehicles are illegally parked you tow them to a lot & the driver would then have to pay a fee to get back their rides. Don't these ppl watch South Beach Tow...they need Bernice over here to straighten them out lil bit

@ Exactly...I agree about the Vet who owns the pet store also owns the building and has MONEY! He should be ashamed telling you his vehicle does not reverse and why should he be allowed to park there regardless of that? The road is small and this happens every day and he should be ticketed or towed. Where is Super Cop when you need him? The need to hurry up and reinstate him to his job.

enforce laws so society works together. No one is above the law and has preferential treatment (unless you are friends with ministers). Ticketing will be a great revenue source.

Absolutely Ridiculous!!! I bet the owner of that towed vehicle is someone that would have raised hell had it been done to them. INCONSIDERATE.

Good thing. It's time they start towing them like SouthBeach Tow. And keep some stinging nettle in the car for when the owners want to come give hell and fight. Rub the stinging nettle on their legs or their hands. I bet them will stop then.

how could the person be off island when they had just blocked in the lady? and if they were catching the boat to go off island why in the world would you block in somebody? height of foolishness if you ask me! Like the other poster said I think they need to have a tow truck on call just for towing illegally parked cars in town and those that block you in and don't come back for hours like you have nowhere to go!

This is BVI on an everyday basis, only difference is that this one is reported. Try parking anywhere near that parking lot by Scotia/Village Cay and see if you can get out when you're ready. People just don't give a s#!t. Stop anywhere, park anywhere, stop to talk, let off people in the middle of heavy traffic and the list goes on. It's a reflection of the general attitude of this place. Nobody gives a s#!t about anything except themselves.

You did not read the post right......The commentor is saying that the towed owner for the vehicle being towed is inconciderate. That this person wouldhave raised hell too if someone else had done the same to them.

So many cars blocking in town, it's about time they started doing something about it. These inconsiderate people make you late for appointments and work when they block you and disappear.

I hav this problem one time. I parked in the parking lot for few minutes to make a deposit at the bank. When I got back someone parked right infront on me block the entrance and two other cars. This was frustrating for me because I hate to inconvenience someone and therefore rathetlr to park out of the way and walk to where I need to go. I had to wait for a while before I was able to move. When the person came to move their vehicle they acted like they didn't do anything wrong I that made me mad. There is illegal parking done everyday and there is nothing being done about it. People need to respect others especially when it comes to parking because it is getting out of control if not we will have to pay a hefty fine.

Why don't these idiots put a cell phone number on their windshield so we can call them at least?

Why is this news? It is high time that the traffic division starts enforcing the laws. Some people are becoming too lawless.

I'm glad that the police finally showed that they could do something like this. The last time I was blocked in and asked for police assistance, they wanted to help me to go bank to bank looking for the driver. I was like...."No Thanks..... I could do that by myself..... I need the car towed" They just smiled at me.
