‘I’ll stand up to Gov't whether VIP or NDP’- Natalio D. Wheatley

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Social commentator, college lecturer and member of the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru said he does not discriminate when it comes to representing the interests of the people, regardless of which Government is in power.

He was speaking on the National Health Insurance (NHI) last Tuesday September 15, 2015 during an airing of Speak Out BVI hosted by Doug Wheatley on ZBVI 780 AM.

“We are the Government…we have elected a group of people to represent our interests not to do what they want,” he said. He likened it to an attorney at law who seeks to represent a client in court without consulting with that client, noting that this was good enough reason for sacking of that attorney.

“But the problem is that in this situation the Government feels quite confident with it because the sacking could only come after four years and [they would hope that with the passage of those four years] they will do enough things to sweeten you up and then you will forget all about sacking them. But that is not how democracy is supposed to function.”

Wheatley recalled that he was side by side with Chairman of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) Bishop John I. Cline in protest against Biwater during the Virgin Islands Party Government of 2007 to 2011.

“The VIP was elected the same way as the National Democratic Party has now been elected and they proposed something called Biwater. And I was side by side, arm by arm with Bishop Cline and the others who said we didn’t want Biwater as it was not in the best interest of the people. So I can’t take a different approach now because it is the NDP,” he said.

“Whether it is the NDP, the VIP, the PEP, United Party, Concerned Citizens Movement, it doesn’t matter for me. I take the same approach all along. Right is right and wrong is wrong and the Government is supposed to represent the will of the people and we cannot tolerate a situation where they dictate to us as opposed to us letting them know how we want to be represented,” said Wheatley.

Wheatley is the proposer of a petition both online and in print which is seeking to have the NHI taken back to the drawing board by the Government and which so far has gained over 600 signatures.

They said that about Faulkner, Ras Uhuru, Tapunchie and Lloyd. In a democracy everyone has a right to vent their dissatisfaction.

Speak Mr. Wheatley and don't let anyone stop you. You are exercising your democratic right. We the people of the BVI are to passive. We cannot stand up for ourselves. We only show ourselves on the poor Island people. Which one of the Caribbean Island this could have taken place and the people won't speak out?

Let them don't go back to the drawing board. They would not even last the four years in office. The hand of God will move them one by one. Just watch and see.

To all the people that voted for the following people please stand up, Delores Christopher, Alvera Maduro Caines, Marlon Penn, Hubert Vanterpool, Archibald Christian. How does their @$$ taste now? NHI affects everybody and you can't hear a word from these j@ck@$$e$? Why the $&@$ were they elected? Don't they realize that they get paid even when they are not in the HOA? Either call a community meeting or get your @$$ on the radio or one of the new sites and talk to your people. Some of them was door to door making all kinds of promises but now they gone mute.

He got a pass because he has spoken after June 8, 2015 and not just to say thanks but he shouldn't be excluded because I just remember he's a part of the BVIHSA board so he should be a lot more vocal.

You must be the brown-noser since it seems like if your party had got in you would have agreed with everything they did and said. Get the heck outta here with that piss. We, the people who voted are holding them accountable and are speaking up.

This is how it should be at all times, the people have concerns about NHI. Such concerns are been swept under the rugs. We like the idea for NHI but they must address these issues before making it law.

They should call a breaking news!!! and cancel NHI and put a smile and all of the people faces, if they want to show that they are working for the people more money coming out of these poor people pockets who are barely scarping by or struggling to make ends meet.
