I will not compare anyone running with Dancia – Premier

- Contracts signed for Red Bay & Hospital
The Premier said he will not compare anyone running with Hon. Dancia Penn QC in the 8th District.
GREENLAND, East End, Tortola, VI - As the campaign trail boils down this weekend ahead of Monday November 7, 2011 General Elections, Premier Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal and Virgin Islands Party leader reminded residents of the 8th electoral district why they should vote for the incumbent representative as she is a “lady on the ground” who is working hard for her district while there are others who are “running in the sea” and “running in the sky”.

Last evening November 4, 2011 in Greenland, the Premier said he will not compare who is running with Hon. Dancia Penn QC, but he knows that “if it was my district and if I was voting I would have to hold on to her, I see what she can do.”

Hon. Penn will be coming up against National Democratic Party's first timer Marlon Penn, and Independent candidates Als'Nolan Davis and Bevis Sylvester who will also be contesting for the first time.

“Sometimes unfortunately people expect you to do even more than performing miracles,” he said, noting that sometimes people wait last minute and if they cannot be helped they say the representative is no good and often time they did not give the representative a chance to get things in place to assist them.

“My people you have a gem as a representative here in the 8th district and I sincerely hope as the campaign is coming to a close so your minds have been made up that Dancia is the answer.”

He reiterated the many portfolios held by Hon. Penn and her representation as Deputy Premier, both at home and abroad and the reason why she was chosen as Deputy Premier.

“I don’t think many were surprised when I chose her as Deputy Premier, you want to have someone when you turn to them can say what are your thoughts on that matter. You cannot run the country by yourself, you need to have a second point of view to help you to think as clear as possible on the various proposals. I believe and I am convinced I have made the right choice when I chose her as Deputy Premier,” Hon. O’Neal said.

Hospital and Red Bay contracts signed

Meanwhile, the Premier also announced that on Friday afternoon, the contract was signed for the completion of the hospital and he hopes that work will commence on Monday, November 7, 2011 – the day of the General Elections.

In addition, he also disclosed that the contract was also signed to improve the Red Bay Jetty and said the plans look good and if the work is produced according to it, he thinks everyone will be proud of what will be happening in Red Bay.

“if it was my district and if I was voting I would have to hold on to her, I see what she can do.” LOL! When did the Premier become a stand up comedienne.

People seem to have the misconception that change is a one man or women thing. You can sign contracts and give permission to work on projects but there is a lot more to it that that. Has anyone ever submitted a plan to have a house build and/or gotten frustrated over the bureaucracy that you must endure before you even start building? All the layers you must go through to get it done? Sometimes the rain comes and throws you off schedule, or that item you ordered didn’t make the shipment date. Or that carpenter didn’t call you back or show up when he was supposed to. Well, it's the same at times for Ministers. It's not the norm here to decide to build something in the BVI one day and then start construction the next day. We have to have a change of attitude if the BVI is to move forward successfully. If you don't like someone for personal or other reasons, you must be willing to put your differences aside for the betterment of our Country. We have to learn to present a united front despite our feelings or party affiliations after we vote our ministers into power. In other words, let democracy reign but don’t be sore losers after the winners are announced. SUPPORT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS. Change cannot happen in 1 day. Projects like the Greenland field have to go through a series of studies and the likes; there are feasibility, planning phases, etc. The thing is to do something right the first time so that you won’t spend money on maintenance issues later. With that being said, you can hope to complete projects but ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN ONE DAY (I believe it was more like 1000 years..lol). Every politician has plans to improve their districts but plans are just that PLANS. There are a lot of things we’ve had to deal with over the past four years that were unplanned. For example: Cleaning up after the major floods and the sorts. True Politicians know how to adjust fire when needed. Sometimes it means postponing one item for something more critical. NO ONE EVER SAID THE JOB WOULD BE EASY. If you are on your way to work and saw a dying man on the road, would you let them die because you didn’t want to mess up your plans to be early? It’s a rhetorical question: answer at your own risk..lol! I am bipartisan. I support individuals not parties. I am voting for Dancia because her ethics are such that she will do for everyone no matter how and who they vote for because she has a heart of Gold and she believes in the democratic process. She is a true professional. I know there will be bashers here because of what I say but I already know that many of our people delight in tearing others down merely for having a difference of opinion. I respect your opinion even if it is said without understanding the issues, investigating the facts, or without considering both sides of the story.

@Jazz....the first 4 paragraphs of your comments may be true and can be said about any candidate and or party (Independent, NDP,VIP). Like you said the job is not easy: it was not easy for Black either or any other elected member for that matter. However, that is no reason for an elected representitive to withhold information from the people when they are expecting you to do what you pormised to do for their district. Then after 4 years to playing the "celebrity with the silver tongue" she comes 3 days before general election to apologize and make more promises. It don't work like that in the BVI ............. anymore.

For some reason I see Bevis (Independent) linked to VIP in some way. Only reason he's there is to give VIP more weight in that district cause ppl aren't too happy with Dancia's BS. Remember Mr. Leo say so!

Hon Premier it is good that you can see what she can do and its a pity you cannot vote for her. She should show the people of the 8th district what she said she set out to do because thay are the ones she now relying on to re-elect her. All your praises cannot help her now....too little too late.
