'I was & would never be excluded' - Sistah Joyce

'I would never be excluded once I am alive, that’s what they need to know. As long as I am alive I would never be excluded out of the calypso show whether I win or I come second, last, once I could enter I would enter because I have grown to love it.' ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Joycelyn M. Searles aka Sistah Joyce was in a state of disbelief yesterday when she received several phone calls indicating that another online news agency was reporting that her name was omitted from the list of Calypsonians for the 2014 Virgin Gorda Easter Festival celebrations.

Speaking exclusively with Virgin Islands News Online the reigning Calypso queen, Sistah Joyce, said that she strongly believed that it was a mis-understanding on the part of some person/s. She explained to this news site that there are actually seven calypsonians that are to chase after her title.

“Actually it is seven calypsonians contending against me who is the reigning the Monarch which makes it eight calypsonians,” said Sistah Joyce. She insisted that there is no rift or misunderstanding between herself and the members of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee and described the issue in some sections of the media as “Small stuff”.

“What I cannot understand is how it could even reach to that point to say that I am excluded. I guess it’s just the news get some kind of wrong information and they have to work that out,” she said being careful on not calling the name of any specific news outfit.

“I would never be excluded once I am alive, that’s what they need to know. As long as I am alive I would never be excluded out of the calypso show whether I win or I come second, last, once I could enter I would enter because I have grown to love it.”

She further explained that while others were required to register for the completion she was only required to confirm that she would be available to defend her crown. “I didn’t have to be put on no list per se because I am the defending champion. What the committee would have drafted is a list of the persons that are going to be coming up against me and that is the list that the news site see and got the facts mixed up,” stated Sistah Joyce.

Public Relations Officer of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee Mr Jerrell A. George told this news site that while it was far from the truth that the reigning queen was omitted from the list, the committee did not put out any list to the public at the time of the allegations.

His story mirrored that of Sistah Joyce’s as he said that she is the reigning queen and will be defending her title. He also dispelled claims that there is a rift between the committee and Sistah Joyce.

Competition without the defending champion? You mad o' wha? No part o' de world that could happen. Some (jealous) people only spreading news to try to bring down VG and the Committee.
