‘I have a gift to help mankind’ – Mr Jason Rubaine

WICKHAM’S CAY ll, Tortola, VI - “Before there was a National AIDS Programme back in 2004 I began working in the National Youth Summit and trying to bring awareness about HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections and diseases and I must say that the times spent has been rewarding,” Mr Jason Rubaine said.

Mr Rubaine was at the time giving brief remarks on his time spent with the National AIDS Programme.

He was one of the persons being honoured with the ‘Volunteer of Distinction Award’ at the December 1, 2014 evening at the

National AIDS Programme (NAP) Ministry of Health and Social Development at The Moorings.

In his acceptance remarks Rubaine said that the works he has done over the years were definitely beneficial to those he targeted as well as himself. “It helps me to recognize that ultimately I believe that I have a gift, I believe that, and I believe that my gift is to be used to help mankind,” he said.

He said that he made a promise to himself and to his creator that as long as he lives and has the strength he is going to try to utilize the gift that he has been blessed with to the fullest benefit of mankind.

“I want to say thanks to [Noelene D. Clarke] and everyone else who has given me the opportunities to collaborate with them, to work along with them to help my community, to help my Territory, I say thank you,” said Mr Rubaine.

Among the activities and initiatives led by Mr Rubaine that qualified him for the award were his involvement in the Youth PEER Research 2010, the Youth Health and Sexuality study of 2012, The National Youth Summit and School Tours on World AIDS Day 2012, RTD 2013 – 2014, ongoing school presentations to primary and secondary school students, job rotation to NAP X 2012 and 2014, and poster face in the Fidelity Works Poster Campaign.

    Why wasnt Dr. McAnaney present and honoured at this function. He did so much for HIV and people living with and affected by HIV.
