'I going on air & I will open the other book' - Hon Ralph T. O'Neal OBE
He also alluded of alleged dubious moves by the NDP who bypassed him through giving out contracts through non- representatives in order to “buy the votes” of the people of Virgin Gorda.
Hon O'Neal was on fire as he addressed and presented Ninth District electoral candidate Mr Elton L. Sprauve aka "All Out" during his campaign launch on the island of Virgin Gorda last night, May 11, 2015.
Disrespect & rumours of the NDP
The Virgin Islands first Premier was particularly peeved at the last minute rush of the NDP government to get certain projects, including the new health facility, roads and other projects done, to win over the minds of eligible voters. This is in addition to what he said were rumours being spread by the NDP about him.
"These people tell a lot of false things hoping to get people worked up and to fool you when elections day comes."
"Now there is a rumour going around about me, but I am a person thank God that when I hear these rumours and lies about myself I shake my shoulders and say that is that. Let them make the rumours that I am with the NDP how I am going to be with the NDP, when I am a full paid member of the Virgin Islands Party. How I going be with them? They don't want me and I don't see why I should want them," said Hon O'Neal as he sought to make it abundantly clear that his loyalty lies with the VIP.
According to Hon O’Neal, he gets along with all the 12 other members that were in the House of Assembly but it is as a matter of respect and not that he is disloyal. "I talk and laugh with them, I shake hands with them, whether they like me or not I don't care, but I have a duty to do and I am not going to pass my colleague in the street or in the office and not say hello and ask them how they doing and so on," he stated.
Mad distribution of Belonger Cards
Honourable O'Neal continued to blast the current NDP government for trying to deceive voters and made reference to the mad rush to distribute Belonger cards.
"...and they give either 200 or 250 Belonger status and they hope that will do. I understand that civil servants were calling Belonger people on Sunday telling them to come for their paper and then go to register.... but let me tell you, I believe that when God says it is enough, it is enough. When he does what he has to do no man could interfere with it."
Hon Fraser is a good thinker
Among the many positive things that people rate Hon O’Neal for is his desire to help the ‘small man’ and his quick thinking abilities. It can be said that his successor, Virgin Islands Party Chairman, Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) possesses these same attributes.
The regional political icon stood strong in representing the integrity and good will of Hon Fraser as he told the gathering last night, "I want to let you know, this gentleman here, Fraser, he is now Chairman of the Party and they are telling all sorts of rumours on him too... I have worked with the man and he is a good thinker, he's a very good thinker."
Hon O'Neal said the NDP and their cronies would have persons believe that their side has the best and brightest set of Counsel members.
"Well you mean we had Lawyer QC, we had an architect, we had Fahie who went to college, he's a teacher, you mean they ain't got no brains, don't tell me that."
He said the NDP is trying to fool the people in order to have them not work with Hon Fraser. "But remember Fraser is a man who looked after the small man, he looked for the small man."
"I heard them bragging about what they do but you never hear them say they helped with social security so that the people who work now and who had worked before from the time it was introduced are now able to get a good pension."
According to Hon O'Neal, there is a culture developing in the VI which is that the 'small man' is not considered but with the VIP, even now under the chairmanship of Honourable Julian Fraser, RA, he said much focus is on the ‘small man’ and will continue to be of paramount importance.
Hon O'Neal said he is prepared to defend his statements at any time.
Meanwhile, in further endorsing Mr Sprauve, Hon O'Neal told the gathering that he now rates Sprauve more than 101%.
"And I will do whatever I can to assist him because I hear now there is a crop of people running and I want you the people of Virgin Gorda to know that you need to have a man that you can depend on, a man with strength and a man who could tell you when you are wrong and when you are right and he has to fight not only for Virgin Gorda but he got to fight for Anegada, he got to fight for Tortola, he got to fight for Jost Van Dyke."
