I am not in the habit of kissing and telling! Hon. Walwyn

- Refused to disclose Gov’t’s $$$ to Awards Show, admonishes media to focus on show & not cost!
Min. Walwyn doesn't see it necessary to publicly disclose the value of Government's contribution to the Awards Show.
The 5th Top 7 @ 7 Awards Show will be held on March 3, 2012.
The 5th Top 7 @ 7 Awards Show will be held on March 3, 2012.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Noting that the issue of accountability has never been an issue for Government in the Virgin Islands (VI), Minister of Education and Culture Hon. Myron Walwyn feels that it is not important to disclose the value of Government’s assistance to the Top 7 @7 Awards show scheduled for March 3, 2012 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

Grilled by the media at a press conference on February 8, 2012 at the Moorings about the dollar value of Government’s input, Minister Walwyn refused to give a figure but rather admonished the media to focus on the show itself.

“The support is sufficient for them to have a good show...I am not in the habit of kissing and telling, we are going to make a significant contribution to the show. I think what the effort should be placed on is not necessarily the cost but the benefit that the show will have towards our young people. That is where I think we should focus our efforts. And as we have seen in the past we have Travis Walters now who is on his way to stardom and it creates an opportunity for other Virgin Islanders to be able to get to that limit so I think really the cost is immaterial. I think we should be looking at what these young men have done and what the future looks like for the young people of the Territory. I admonish you to pay attention to that,” Minister Walwyn said.

One reporter tried to justify the need for an answer on the issue of accountability, however, Hon. Walwyn said accountability has never been an issue and doesn’t expect it to be with this Government either.

Meanwhile, President of Follow the Movement (FTM), Craig Lake said the cost for the entire show is still being calculated but also encouraged the media to stress on the show itself and promised that at the end of the event such information would be divulged.

The 5th annual Follow The Movement Top 7 @7 Music Awards Show will be headlined by the Virgin Islands very own Travis Walters, now known as Travie Rozae. Also headlining the Awards Show will be Verse Simmons, who is known for his hit single “Boo Thang”, and Rock City out of the US Virgin Islands.

According to FTM, four “important" men will be present at the show to assess Travis’ performance.

The individuals include Devyne Stephens, who is an American Record Executive and musician and Kevin Hall, an executive Vice President of Creative at Universal Music Group. Also assessing Walter’s performance will be Aaron Schuck, who is the Director of A&R at Atlantic Records and Shawn Holiday, who is the senior Vice-president of Interscope.

“This year we also have four important labels, who are going to be present to tell us what they are looking for and assess the artistes that we have in the BVI, those on the show and even those that didn’t make it,” Lake had stated.

I totally agree with you. They need to focus on the show and not how much money our Government will be spending Myron believe that the youths are future and see it fit to invest in them. Good Job Myron.

Tell us how much they give Abi for her concert. Tell us how much they gave the Music Fest and show us the financials, we are waiting 2yrs now and still nothing. Tell us about the initiative that Andrew and Claude cooked up and $500,000 later everybody pointing fingers, not one young person benefitting. Tell us what happen to the drag study, the medical study, the small properties study, the monies spent on greenland field but no work done. If you want to talk, talk it all! Them want leaks? I want NDP start leaking too, I bet they will stop the nonsense once certain information comes out. Who still getting almost US$100,000 a year to provide security for Water and Sewerage? WHO WHO WHO the Owl say! hahaiiieee

You shut your trp. How many from the previos government took oaths and did pi$$? How many of them mi-hndled our monies and give no accountable for it? Oh you all just tood by and ask nothing because it ws going into some of you all pocket now you want the minister to tell all...hummm, he should really tell all, especially what he found in that ministry. For the record, the amount given to Abi for tht concert was not a hidden figure. It was for John public to hear so next time, open your ears and listen.

Not in the habit Kissing and Telling. What a load of crap. What you do at your businesses is your business. But when it comes to government money, the people has the RIGHT to know. Is Dr. Smith in a slumber? These rogue ministers will be his undoing. Kedric/Ronnie get ready to take charge.

Myron, it is not "the Government's" money, it is the taxpayers money. You are accountable to us how you spend. You do not get to choose what you tell the public - the law requires that you tell taxpayers all of it. It is called financial accountability.

I agree with whats done in the dark will come to light. VIP and NDP seem to have similar symptoms. VIP give Claude Cline a set of Money and NDP hiding it.....lol. This is not about Youths; this is about pleasing friends and family. This is a lie. Stop lying to the youth man them! The BVI does not belong to 5 set of families; it belongs to the people. We Virgin Islanders. The Government chooses what they are going to big up and support based on who you are and what you can do for them and what you know about them and not based on what is needed for the Country.
