LEVERICK BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Finishing with four Kings, Virgin Islands resident Ameka Hydeman presented the winning hand at the 2016 Leverick Bay Poker Run yesterday, May 29, 2016.

Hydman won for herself $8000.

The second prize of $5000 went to Puerto Rican Ramon Martinez, who ended with four Tens.

The third prize of $3000 went to Roger Franklyn of St Thomas, USVI. Franklyn ended with a Full House.

The biggest winner of the day, however, was the Virgin Gorda Charitable Trust which was presented with a cheque for $11,000.

Some $80,000 has been given to charity by the Leverick Bay Poker Run organisers since around 2009, according to one of the organisors, Nick Willis.

The 2016 Leverick Bay Poker Run route included stops at Harbour View Marina in East End, Scaramouche Restaurant in West End, Pirates Bight on Norman Island and Rendezvous Bar on Virgin Gorda.

“There were so many boats you could hardly see water at Leverick Bay. It was just amazing. I don’t know where they all came from,” commented Willis, who along with his wife Monica, is responsible for organising the highly anticipated event.

Willis also said this year was easily one of the best years for the event, although he was not prepared to say how many boats were registered.

He also noted that a boat ‘Were is Eileene now?’ came all the way from Miami, USA especially for Poker Run.

“That is how these people want to come. This was the biggest ever. It’s getting bigger and bigger.”

Mr Willis also expressed appreciation for all the participants and spectators of Leverick Bay Poker Run 2016. “Thank you all for coming, because without all those guys there would not have been an event,” Mr Willis told Virgin Islands News Online.
