ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Hundreds of children flocked to the area adjacent to the Government Administration Complex yesterday, August 10, 2013 for Delta Petroleum’s (DP’s) third annual Wet and Wild fun day affair featuring one of the world’s largest inflatable waterslides.

The event crowned this year’s DP summer promotion which began at the start of July, according to Regional General Manager (RGM) Mr Bevis Sylvester. The promotion saw drivers who purchased $20 worth of gas at the DP service station receiving five tickets that allowed them to access the waterslide.

The event continues today, August 11, 2013 and begins at 10 A.M. at the same location. Sylvester noted that it was also taken to Virgin Gorda last year as a partnership between DP and the Ninth District Representative, Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE but this will not be repeated this year.

According to Sylvester, the activity was another of Delta’s family-oriented events. “Family is very important and without having your family’s support and having your family together, it’s very important if family’s could come out to events like this and support,” he said.

The RGM said he was surprised that the event continued to get bigger and better with each passing year adding that he thought persons may have been bored of the slide by now. “The children are sliding sometimes so much, that their parents don’t have any more tickets,” he said.

He added that the company may consider making the event a paid one at some point in the future but this is not something that was being explored currently.

Sylvester further explained that the event was part of Delta’s marketing strategy in reaching out to the future generation of tomorrow. He said the response to the event sent a message that more businesses needed to become involved in similar activities, just as Delta has. “They need to bring families together,” he said.

“Marketing is not for today, true marketers market for the future,” he stated, “and true leaders identify their followers from very early.” He asked that customers continue to support Delta and reminded that DP continues to give money back into their pockets when they become loyalty card customers.

Curtis Mendez of Huntum’s Ghut said he had come out for the third year in succession with his two children and also participated in the adult session last year. “For now, it’s just the kids, it’s just a matter of letting the kids enjoy themselves,” he added.

I hope Myron Walwyn, Mark Vanterpool and Sharon Flax take ideas from Bevis and inorder to attract Tourists. Stop with the Cruise Ship Pier and Air Port Extension and build a faci;ity where the Locals and tourist alike can enjoy year round.

I love this initiative for the kids, however I am very concerned about the water that accumulate at the bottom of this slide. Is this really sanitary? Is there chlorine in this water? If it was water being bumped from the sea and going back into the sea I wouldn't mind but gosh man I am sure some of these kids take in some of this same water as they reach the bottom. Just something to think about!
