It was indeed a family fun night with many opportunities for fans, players, and even referees to walk away with money in their pockets. This included some $1,000 in cash with other prizes such as cellular phones compliments of LIME and Digicel, gas vouchers from Delta Petroleum, dinners, and the popular book written by Bishop John I. Cline the Monogamy Mystery. Photo: VINO

DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI - With a massive turn out and standing room only, the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League All Star night held on Saturday October 11, 2014 has been described as exciting, highly competitive spirits but friendly and the place to win over $2000 in prizes.

While the old boys’ team headed by Karl ‘Dub’ Scatliffe was a no show, it did not stop the thrilling night’s activities.

It was indeed a family fun night with many opportunities for fans, players, and even referees to walk away with money in their pockets. This included some $1,000 in cash with other prizes such as cellular phones compliment LIME and Digicel, gas vouchers from Delta Petroleum, dinners, and the popular book written by Bishop John I. Cline the Monogamy Mystery.

The Junior Division got action underway, albeit belatedly, with the West team beating the East, 52-39.

The Top Performers for the West were Ajai Frett with 13 points, 4 rebounds, K'ntenay Maduro 9 points, 3 rebounds, K'Andre Clarke 9 points, 3 rebounds and Raheem Hodge 9 points, 2 rebounds.

Top Scorers for Young Legs were Jason A. Edwin with 20 points and 7 rebounds, Kennedy H. Bass 19 points, 6 rebounds and Jevon Cameron with 13 points.

In the All Star games where is was a matchup between the best from the Eastern and Western Divisions of the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League, it was also competitive but tense, as players got the opportunity to warm up for the playoffs. The Eastern Division took the game by 1 point in a 66 to 65 win.

The Western Division was coached by Rhennie O. Phipps of the Bayside Blazers and the Eastern rather surprisingly by Rajah A. Smith, who is a Coach in the Western Division.

Jovan K. Serrant was named the MVP of the game and walked away with cellular phone compliments LIME and $200.00 cash from Nagico Insurances. Mr. Serrant had 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Rowan Victor finished with 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block and Nichols Charles 11 points.

For the West, Michael Benjamin notched 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, whilst Talon Phillip recorded 14 points and Dominic Ward 12 points with 5 rebounds.

The next big event for the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League is the playoffs which will tip off on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Save the Seed Energy Centre. This will be the mother of all battles as in the Western Division Bayside Blazers the team with the most wins in the entire League will do batter in the first round against the number 4 team Game Boyz, the only team to defeat them in the regular season. This will be the match up to watch as both teams have things to prove.

Still in the Western Division of the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed League it will be a show down between Avengers and Da 3rd who is the favourite to win. But in the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed League the outcome of any game is never a sure thing.

In the Eastern Division it will be the battle in the first round between the 2013 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Champions Ruff House and Desert Storm while Talk Done will come up against Knights.

a most dis...anized event with much delay only saved by the timely intervention of Milton mclean. how can u say you do this thing for the youths and then treat them with such disrespect ? also what standard are u setting for them ? hope they get a banner for the young starz

Please stop spreading propaganda, the only event delayed was the old school game because Karl didn't bring his team, neither the less the fans were not disappointed as Mclean and Rajah split the team that was there and they both played. Kudos to the team HJFSTSL.
