ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Justice Ann-Marie Smith has sentenced Virgin Islands Belonger Mickhail Howe of Lower Estate, Tortola, to five years and three months for attempted robbery and assault of a female in 2018.

The sentence was handed down on Friday, November 8, 2019 at the High Court in Road Town, Tortola.

Howe will spend four years and three months for attempted robbery and an additional 12 months for the assault charge. His sentences are to run concurrently at Her Majesty’s Prison.

Attorneys Patrick D. Thompson and Reynela Rawlins represented Howe during the criminal matter before the court.

Howe and an unknown man attempted to rob

On the night in question, the virtual complainant (VC) was at the cash register in a van, while two other men the VC worked with were packing up for the night.

During that time, the convicted man, armed with a gun and wearing a mask, along with an unknown man, attempted to rob the VC of her earnings for the night.

A fight followed when the men attempted to grab a pink Kipling bag containing cash, but the VC held unto it.

The fight spilt outside the van and the other men, along with the VC, were able to take away the gun and the VC was able to run away with the firearm and her bag of cash.

However, the gunman pursued the VC with a broken bottle. During the pursuit, the VC dropped the gun along the way and entered into a nightclub, where she was rescued by patrons who fought the masked man.

It was during that time the VC recognised the man she called ‘Mickey’ as her attacker.

Assault

During the attack, the VC suffered haemorrhaging to her forehead, a broken left cheekbone and her left index fingernail was dislodged.

Howe was later taken into police custody where he admitted to being part of the robbery as the getaway driver.

The name of his accomplice was not revealed to police.

Howe claimed he was seeking out his accomplice when he was beaten by the patrons of the bar and lost his pants during their assault on him.

They are many young men facing 5 years plus for a fire arm that was found at there home not on a robbery or committed a murder and got a mandatory 5 years for it there are at least five other cases just like this one where they was under five years for committing horrible crimes like this one some are even repeat gun offenders and still is under the mandatory 5 years sentence...... what goes for one goes for all there is to much corruption between BVI Landers , police officers and lawyers it needs to be checked up on ASAP

He needs a stiffer punishment cause he always before the court for Robbery or assault. it’s always some nonsense all he does be is beat woman and take up what is not his. Lock him away for good. This is what happen when you let your kids get away with everything and very correct them. They assume this is ok behavior cause they were never corrected as kids to desist such behavior
