ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Fourth Sitting of the First Session of the Third House of Assembly (HoA) will be held on Monday November 2, 2015 at the HoA chambers in Road Town, the Virgin Islands capital city.

This is according to our news room’s senior sources within the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP). The NDP has an 11 seat out of 13 majority in the House of Assembly (HoA).

The Order Paper has not been released as of post time but, according to the same source, the Leader of Government Business, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith, is expected to give a few statements on some topical issues, including matters with the United Kingdom.

The Parliamentary meeting will be presided over by  Speaker of the HoA Ingrid A. Moses who faced heavy criticism from the Opposition, civil society and the media in her last tenure [2011-2015] for allegedly being bias, however, when she was re-appointed Speaker following this year’s general election, Speaker Moses promised to be “fair”.

Opposition silence

The public has begun to criticise the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) 2-member Opposition, claiming the Opposition is not asking questions and is silent on the controversial National Health Insurance (NH) scheme to be imposed on the public by the NDP come January 2016.

In addition, other topical issues that the VIP Opposition remains silent on includes whether the NDP has left the country broke after the 2015 elections and the ongoing delays and over runs at the multi-million dollar BVI Ports Authority project.

It remains unclear also if the wounds have healed between the two men, Opposition Leader and Virgin Islands Party Chairman Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) and Senior VIP Member Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) over their fight for the Opposition Leader’s post.

Following the 2015 general election that saw the VIP defeated by the ruling NDP in an 11 to 2 margin, Hon Fahie led a “coup d’état” against Hon Fraser with some 7 members who contested. The aggrieved party signed a petition to Governor John S. Duncan OBE for Hon Fahie to be named Opposition Leader.

After the two men could not reach an agreement, the UK-appointed Governor selected Hon Fraser to the post.

This news site will bring further details of the November 2, 2015 Parliament Sitting once the Order Paper is obtained.

the VIP to stop acting like to spoil brats and do the work that they were voted in to office to do: not speaking during the sittings make no sense whatsoever.... Those 2 should be the voice of the people and stop chatting @$$ about who voted for NDP:

@ eye spy: just a follow up question madam speak; is it that the 2-members not asking any questions during the sittings of House of assembly OR they don't have anything worthwhile saying during those sittings: I know for a fact only fool breaks his own heart: I personally feel that those two members can not sit together and come up with an angeada to bring to the house of assembly

@ LOL: most of us already know the answer to the questions any way; it is simply a matter of doing what those guys were elected to do, they were NOT strong enough to pull of VICTORY at the 2015 polls: back in 2007 pickering & Smith did in fact attend the sittings and both of them gave their input at the sittings for 4 years: they did not sit back on them @$% talking bull about the VIP won the election so we have nothing to say( look at NDP now 11-2 victory over the past 6 years) NDP is not the best for BVI but the guys are very crafty and a very unified political party where as VIP now have internal fussing and fighting; no wonder them can't focus on the issues in our territory but hiding behind we put NDP in office so them have nothing to say( 2 blind mice) chatting such !uck in a modern progressive society and let ME add I personally support the VIP for 35 years( so it has nothing to with NDP/VIP) those 2 need to take them head out them @$$ and get busy and lay the foundation for 2019!!!!!

we need a different political party: a party with open minded individuals, well educated and willing to hear the voice of the community: 15 good men/women; I personally believe that women will offer better political leaders.... The new party can not wait until a few days before the next election to go from house to house......
