Hons Fraser & Fahie gearing up for battle over VIP Chairmanship!
Both men were first elected in 1999 under the Virgin Islands Party banner.
The election date has been set for Wednesday November 30, 2016 and, according to one of our sources close to the VIP, “so far I know for sure it’s a rematch between Fahie and Fraser.”
Fraser won first time
The last time the VIP’s 76 member congressional delegates selected a Chairman was in May 2014 when Hon Fraser defeated Hon Fahie 44-30.
Also all posts on the Executive Committee are opened, including that of the President currently held by Mr Carvin Malone, Vice President, Secretary and Assistant, Treasurer and Assistant, along with a Public Relations Officer.
Up to publication time, neither Hon Fraser nor Hon Fahie responded to our question as to whether they would be contesting for the VIP Chairmanship in November.
Traditionally, whoever wins the chairmanship of the VIP is appointed Premier if the party wins the general elections.
Thus far it’s unclear who have expressed an interest in the other posts. At the May 2014 VIP Executive election, Mr Carvin Malone won after former Permanent Secretary and businessman Julian Willock surprisingly dropped out of the race.
However, he nominated from the floor Joann R. Romney who earned 25 votes to Malone’s 50, as Mr Malone went on to serve for another term.
Any other options?
While thus far only Hons Fahie and Fraser will be running for the Chairmanship post, some delegates are urging former Deputy Premier R. Dancia Penn QC, to join the race, along with former H. Lavity Stoutt Community College President Dr Karl Dawson. However, both have not made their intentions known.
In an invited comment, Julian Willock said he will not be a candidate for the Presidency for the VIP, but when pressed as to whether he has his eyes on other goals, he declined to comment.
Since the 45 year old life of the VIP there have been only three Chairmen. The founding Chairman and late Chief Minister H. Lavity Stoutt, former Premier Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE and current Chairman Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3).

Next to that Fahie and Frazer need to go their separate way and form a new party.
Them two will NEVER work together
But I wish each district would hold parties of interested people to see who would be a new candidate for the VIP party. Get the communities involved with questions and meetings. Use debates so people can hear new ideas.
The chairman unfortunately needs to be an experienced leader who knows how government works.
The current egos are killing the party. I would like to see Dr Dawson step up. Also Preston Stoutt. Even though Dancia is experienced she is not strong or as involved as she should have been when in office. But she is smart and knows the ropes. Any leader needs to lead and stick to the issues, not whine, beg or bad-mouth. look at Donald Trump!
I will take Pen or Dawson, We know they are Intelligent/Capable, however how tough are They!! Are they willing to do the things they need to, to address some of the serious issue facing the VI-( Crime, Education etc)
