Hons Fahie & Walwyn condemns ‘nasty campaign’ in 2019 elections
Mr Fahie warned that “families are off limit” even though he, over the years, has been a target and his wife was used in negative political campaigns.
Days before that, there was a ‘meme’ been circulated describing Hon Fahie as “the head of a crime family,” with many persons pointing the finger to the NDP 1 and their operatives.
The nasty ‘meme’ included reference to the wife of Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline along with referring to Hon Fahie—who might be the next Premier—falsely claiming he was under investigation for money laundering.
Double standards?
In fact, the only person running for office in the 2019 Virgin Islands (VI) election currently under a police investigation is Hon Walwyn, as the Governor and Police Commissioner have publicly announced that.
With the ‘meme’ circulating on Hon Fahie, which includes the Pastor’s wife in the image, to date, no one has condemned that image and residents along with political pundits are questioning why.
Several persons raised concerns about the double standards, in fact, residents believe all should be equally condemned and there must be a clear campaign about the issues and not just personal attacks, a view shared by the Virgin Islands News Online editorial board.
It was also last night, Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the launch of Hon Mark H. Vanterpool's (R4) campaign, that Hon Walwyn condemned the meme that targeted his wife Judith, claiming that he believed VIP was involved, however, providing no evidence.
Many residents have blamed Mr Walwyn for the nasty tone of the 2019 election campaign, as he started out with division. His strategy is to put locals against Caribbean brothers and sisters and even picking a fight with our neighbours in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI).
Walwyn is to blame?
Many have also labelled Mr Wawlyn as the most “divisive politician in the Territory” and former Chairman of the BVI Christian Council, Bishop John I. Cline has condemned his “divisive tactics” months ago.
Many have also questioned if Mr Walwyn has credibility at this stage to be taken seriously, when he denounced nasty campaigning after he has been the author—over the years—of nasty, unethical, divisive, and libellous campaigning.
Other party leaders including Hons Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) and Hon Julian Fraser (R3) have also spoken out against the tone of the 2019 campaigns.

Did the NDP made the people lives better or bitter in the past eight years? The answer is no. We are worst off today than any other time under the NDP government. People living in shelters, broken down school, Recovery and Development Agency supervising $300. million and we will have to repay the amount. What a shame on us. Britain thinks that we are not capable and cannot be trusted with money. It is time for the NDP to go and let someone else administer the country. So on Election Day we need to vote them out.
