SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI – As the 2019 Elections date draws closer, politicians continue to use tit for tat as a campaign strategy as was evident at the National Democratic Party’s (NDP 1) most recent rally where its leader unleashed an attack on Virgin Islands Party (VIP) break-away member and radio host Claude O. Skelton-Cline.

Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL) took issue against Skelton-Cline alleging that he left the NDP because he was booted from the BVI Port Authority.

The political rant took place in the Third District, Sea Cows Bay on Saturday, January 26, 2019, when the NDP launched their representative for that district, Mr Aaron F. Parillon.

Frothing at Mouth

“I see some of them frothing at the mouth but they only frothing because the government did not renew their contract at the Port. That’s why they frothing,” Mr Walwyn said referring to Skelton-Cline.

Hon Walwyn continued, “Anyhow [If] their contract was renewed, they would not have been over there saying the things they saying about the NDP,” he added.

Walwyn was at the time talking about the qualities of a leader and what voters need to consider when choosing one, noting, that a defining issue for the 2019 elections has to be about leadership.

“It is an issue which is so critical to our immediate future that we cannot escape it. It is the leadership more than any other factor which determines whether a country succeeds or whether a country fails,” he said.

Leadership is not holding a position – Walwyn

He further stated that leadership should not be confused with holding a position as a leader since that is meaningless.

According to Mr Walwyn, “It is a sad currently on contemporary politics that the ultimate ambition of some persons is simply to rise to the position of Party leader and then use it as a stepping stone to becoming Premier, Prime Minister or President. We must be on our guard against such persons,” he said.

“Their self-serving agenda does not include the advancement of the people. It includes advancement of self.”

Didn't Claude O Skelton-Cline overspend his budget by $40 million when he was at the Port Authority?

Speaking of 'self serving' Myrun. The manner in which you pushed down all of the buildings at the Elmore Stoutt High School (BVI High School) was completely disrespectful to the thousands of persons who call the school their Alma Mater. While I understand that the school was significantly damaged during the storm, was there any consultation with engineers to ascertain if any of the original structures could have been preserved? Were any of the emblems and markings engraved into the buildings preserved for perhaps museum purposes or did you just order a complete destruction of everything? Even the fire proof building on mainstreet displays some of the original structure for all to see! It's interesting to note that the majority of your secondary schooling did not take place here in the BVI and thus it seems like you could care less about the history of our school. You have completely demolished a significant part of our history for your own selfish ambitions. GOOD JOB!

IT MAKES NO SENSE to leave structures and build "over" them. Next thing it will be that broken walls fall on people....IN THE BVI, we just can't please anyone. Y'all want new buildings AND still want old structures to remain. JUST SICKENING!!!!

Distasteful! With all due respect, I detect a hint of hypocrisy in your statement about the destruction of the remnants of the (BVI High School). The school was significantly damaged in 2017 by the hurricanes Irma and Maria. What was left there remained for over a year, while everyone criticized the fact that nothing was being done to restore it for use. During this time, if anyone had any interest in preserving anything "for museum purposes", they had ample time to do so.
I may not be a fan of the minister in charge of education, and indeed, also do not have anything against him. Fair is fair. People are generally slow in acting to do what's right, or what they think is right, but always quick to point out what they perceive to be other people's mistake. Whoever you are, if you think there was something to salvage, you could have taken the initiative to do so, or voice your concerns before it was all gone.
Your comments, in this case, I find to be a bit on the distasteful side.

classic kindergarten behavior: all these folks sat the very same table: all of dem are equally guilty for the unaccountable your tax money: I find the personal attacks under the various tents very stimulating however I rather they expose one another while on that campaign trail by calling the names of thier former colleagues who actually pocket the tax money(how they did it; where they hiding those funds and which government projects thier former friend took the money from)...want the jucy details associated with the mismanagement of public funds(the 10 of them, namely NDP 1 & NDP 2 fully well know about those unacceptable millions & Millions)....see u on election day

whaaaaaaatt? This is really some furious fuming frothing going on here. What does having forefathers born here have to do with anything. There are Smiths, Skeltons, Clynes, Turnbulls, Maduros, Georges, Vanterpools and others with "indigenous" names. What does that have to do with making good decision for the locals and visitors or as it is usually called Belongers and expats? How much was the Pier Park overspend or under budgeted? Who were the persons incharge. What is the cost of the hospital and who was in charge? Was it an indigenous Named person or one whose forefathers are not from here?

What is new about them, they are the same old guards and cronies who were all part of the well orchestrated plan to suck the blood of the Nation. Look at them good and tell me who is new, none. Get rid of all of them.

A former governor of our neighbor, the USVI, was kicked to the curb allegedly for a ready-shoot-aim mouth and sharp tongue. James 3:8 says “But tongue can no man tame ;it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:10: Out of the same mouth proceedth blessing and cursing. Let’s stop the politics of personal destruction. Our focus needs to be on rebuilding the country.
