-calls PAC report disgraceful & shameful, said the committee’s members did not come with 'clean hands'

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Known for his hostility towards online media sites, Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn again launched a scathing attack on the free press, making disparaging comments in the House of Assembly while contributing to the debate on the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) final report on the cruise pier project.

He was speaking during the Eighth Sitting of the Third Session of the Second House of Assembly yesterday July 23, 2014.

The Minister also made disparaging remarks about the PAC and its members and the reports it released on the cruise pier project.

“You must come to the process with clean hands, because you are in a position of such esteem that you have been considered as the queen of all committees,” Hon Walwyn said, referring to the PAC’s Opposition members.

“With much authority comes much responsibility and that responsibility must be exercised in a fair, objective, and unbiased way and you must be credible when you speak,” he said.

“I cannot say that the [Opposition members of the PAC] came to the process with clean hands,” said Hon Walwyn.

“The politicians know how to play the politics…they use the same tactics Madam Speaker that the online news use now. They give you a nice fanciful headline to get the emotions working and if you do not go down into the body of the story and get it for yourself and use your good common sense, you will depart from that story with all sorts of thoughts in your mind, totally different from the story itself,” he said.

“Some of them even write some very misleading headlines but put the truth in the body of the [story] because they believe that people don’t read,” he said.

“We use these things on the people sometimes, even in the politics. Because the truth is how many persons would get up and read this?” he asked, indicating the thick PAC final report.

The Minister called the earlier released interim report of the PAC on the cruise pier project flimsy and lacking in substance. “It was shameful actually and I know the members on the Opposition side who were primarily the authors of it…I know them very well,” he said in a mocking tone.

“They are very intelligent persons so I don’t understand what might have possibly gone wrong with producing a one and a half page report,” he said.

He accused the Opposition of becoming ‘sweet’ on power so much so that they would seek to get it back at any cost. “Madam Speaker, you know that power like it sweet, that power like it sweet some of them so they will do anything and everything at the expense of the people, at the expense of everything just to get their hands on that power,” said Minister Walwyn.

You see how angry people get when they know they have something to hide and people want answers? It will all come out eventually so all we have to do is sit back and wait like we always do. What's hiding in the darl will soon come out in the light.

No wonder that bill was returned to the House before being assented to. Thanks to the UK , left to these set of dictators we would be no better off that if we were in China.

Well I have to say that of late, one site in particular has had me taking a triple look to be certain that they wrote what I think I am reading. Objectivity gone totally out the window. I simply no longer look at that site as credible when it comes to politics and the worthiness of its global publisher has been totally diminished in my eyes.
I am disappointed that a grownup in such a position is behaving like gossipy and vendetta
seeking teenage girls. Nothing to gain, everything to lose and so much wasted time. Everything eventually comes out in the wash so report like an adult and get on with life...shucks!!!
