Hon. Skelton- New Out Patient Clinic to provide quicker care

- Deputy Premier Pickering says Outpatient Clinic now under renovation will make residents happy
Minister of Health and social Development, Hon. Ronnie Skelton said the new Outpatient Clinic is currently under renovation.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - On the local radio talk show, NDP Radio, where the current Ministers of Government and other elected representatives discuss and answer questions made by the public, Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Ronnie Skelton stated that the new Outpatient Clinic at the Peebles Hospital will provide quicker care to patients.

On the show that was aired on May 8, 2012, Hon. Skelton stated that an advantage of the new clinic, which is currently under renovation, is that patients will have access to quicker care.

He added that the new clinic will be available in the afternoons so that people can feel comfortable at the hospital versus going to a clinic somewhere else.

“Some of the people who sit in the emergency room don’t deserve to be in that position, but this is because we have not done what we needed to do or should have done, to let them know that there is a place you can get this care. We try to do something that will assist the people who try to access clinical care at the hospital to get service a lot quicker.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Hon. Kedrick Pickering, in commenting on the new Outpatient Clinic said it is a tremendous addition to the facilities of the hospital.

Hon. Pickering stated that it is very important for the population to understand that the emergency room cannot function as an Out Patient Clinic, because it causes people who really need to see the doctor to wait much longer than they should.

“The improvements that Minister Skelton is working on implementing, it means that people who need to see the doctor but not for an emergency situation, they don’t have to go to the emergency room, they would be able to go to the clinic and have a much shorter wait,” said Hon. Pickering.

The Deputy Premier stated that when the project is completed, the emergency room will be for what it was intended to be, for people who have emergencies, and it will make services much better and the people of the Virgin Islands much happier.
