Hon Pickering wants special parking spots for former legislators
At least one current Member of the House of Assembly, Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Dr. the Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering (R7), believes that perks must be extended to former legislators.
Administrative Complex Facilities Manager Ariel Donovan was testifying before the House of Assembly’s Standing Finance Committee last year when Deputy Premier Pickering enquired of the cost to pave the parking lots at the Central Administration Building.
To this, Mr Donovan advised lawmakers that the quote of $375,000.00 was given to pave the parking lots with asphalt.
Meanwhile, the Member for the Fifth District Honourable Deloris Christopher wanted considerations to be given to paving of the parking lots at the Central Administration Complex.
In addition, the Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Hon Pickering suggested that “parking spaces be designated for former Members”.
The Facilities Manager, Mr Donovan, promised to “look into that possibility”.
While members were calling for the paving of the lots and giving special parking privileges to former legislators, the Central Administration Complex Facilities Manager also warned lawmakers that he had no plans to do that because the parking lots were designated building sites.
When Mr Donovan was pressed, he said the eastern parking lot was designated for the Law Block.

The Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works, Anthony S. McMaster who can be considered the landlord for the Central Administration Complex, indicated that because of the parking lot already earmarked for something else there was a parking lot designated near the Cruise Pier Project that could hold approximately 100 vehicles.
Mr McMaster further indicated that the parking lot, coupled with the other parking lots located throughout the city, would suffice for parking at the Central Administration Complex.

They are ordinary citizens now...sheer $%^.
Perhaps you can offer them some type of shuttle service from home or a designated pick up location once they intend to visit the Government Complex directly.
Why? Service is service. Once people genuinely join a life of service they never truly stop advocating for 'the people'.
