ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Opposition Leader and Virgin Islands Party boss Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal OBE, while praising the Attorney General (AG) Dr Christopher P. Malcolm on his efforts at consolidating the Territory’s laws, took a swipe at a previous Attorney General who served during his administration.

“We had an Attorney General who cost this Territory over $100,000 to get her here and we just could not get anywhere with her,” Hon. O’Neal explained.

Hon. O’Neal made the comment during the continuation of the Fifth Sitting of the Third Session of the Second House of Assembly yesterday, March 19, 2014. The AG at the time read the Bill for the Interpretation (Amendment) Act, 2013 and gave some insight into the Consolidation of Laws Project being embarked upon.

Hon. O’Neal, the Territory’s first Premier, told the House that he was forced to speak to the former AG (whom he did not name) in a harsh tone to get minor things done.

“I’m not afraid or ashamed to say, if I did not have a loud voice sometimes, she would look to put licks on me because I had to speak to her very harshly in order to get the most minor things done,” he said.

The veteran politician pointed out that he tried to show the former AG why it was so important to have the laws in line with the constitution, but seemingly had little success.

“It went so far Madame Speaker that I told the Governor that we’re not getting value for money and it is better you pay her off and get her out of the Territory,” he continued, “that is one of the problems we had.”

“I’m glad the Attorney General has carried out the business of the government and that this Bill is now before the House,” he said.

Uncle Ralph does not have strength for the corruption and lies of the NDP, but he has strength and voice for a former attorney general which he got rid of LONG TIME. Well saw…like NDP Uncle has to go.

This situation emphasizes, unfortunately, the limits of a Premier's power.
