Hon O’Neal, Hon Fraser skip today’s HoA sitting

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Two prominent members of the Opposition were today September 25, 2014 absent from the Tenth Sitting of Third Session of the Second House of Assembly.

Leader of the Opposition Honourable Ralph T. O'Neal OBE (R9) and Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Chairman Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) were not present at today's sitting.

Speaker of the House of Assembly Honourable Ingrid A. Moses told the members at the commencement of the sitting that Honourable O'Neal was ill hence his absence. She announced too that Honourable Fraser was absent because of an unavoidable conflict of schedule.

Today's absence by the two Opposition Members continues the trend of the Opposition members selectively skipping sittings of the House of Assembly.

This was since the controversial closing of the Eighth Sitting of the Third Session of the Second House of Assembly where acting Speaker Honourable Delores Christopher adjourned the sitting sine die without a quorum on August 14, 2014.

So far Government  and the Speaker of the House of Assembly have ignored all of the arguments put forward by the Opposition on the reasons they considered the adjournment illegal. The Opposition's arguments were backed up by Erskine May Parliamentary Practice.

Any elected official who is in the BVI { and is not ill} and does not show up for a sitting of the HOA should have their salary docked. They are being paid to represent the people of the BVI and should be at all sittings of the HOA. There should be no excuse for this kind of behavior.

If you call victimization of civil servants achievement, wasting government money and travel with not one report, frustrating teachers where some 10 of them call it a day, and using government funds for…&^&% if that is achievement then bring that to the voters boss, we wet our finger and waiting for you!
