ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Leader of the Opposition and Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Honourable Julian Fraser RA was philosophical about the need to remain silent regarding the upcoming elections of the VIP set for September 2, 2015.

It is not clear whether Honourable Fraser (R3) will be seeking re-election as Chairman of the party as he did not make this clear when reached by this news site.

“The elections for executives of the VIP is an internal matter, and as always I feel that the dignified manner in which to deal with such matters is privately. As such, I hold the same position as I did when dealing with the Leadership of the Opposition,” said Hon Fraser.

“…as Chairman of the party the responsible thing to do was to refrain from making public statements since there was no possible way that such statements could be in the best interest of the Virgin Islands Party,” he concluded.

The post of Chairman of the party, as is that of President, becomes vacant for the elections.

“In accordance with Article Seven, Sections 1 and 2 of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Bylaws, the VIP Congress will convene at 6:00pm at Marias By the Sea on Wednesday September 2nd 2015 for the purpose of conducting the election of officers to the party, whose posts will become vacant, namely: Chairman; President; Vice President; Secretary; Assistant Secretary; Treasurer; Assistant Treasurer; Public Relations Officer and Assistant Public Relations Officer. All ordinary members, in good standing, shall be eligible to be nominated to any vacant post,” information circulated to party members stated recently.

It further stated that nominations shall be accepted by the VIP National Congress 14 days in advance from a Nominations Committee formed from among the party’s membership; or 7 days in advance from any two ordinary members of the VIP by written notice to the secretary; or from the floor from any two VIP Congressional Members during the course of the meeting.

“VIP Congressional Delegates, in good standing, selected in accordance with Article Six, Section 3 of the VIP’s Constitution and submitted to the Credentials Committee for certification within 14 days of the date of elections shall be entitled to vote for as many candidates as there are vacancies to be filled and no more,” party members were told.

VIP's future in question?

The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) lost the June 8, 2015 general elections in the Virgin Islands by an 11-2 landslide to the National Democratic Party (NDP).

The future of the party has since been thrown into question with the recent impasse over the post of Opposition Leader with both Hon Fraser and Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) expressing an interest and failing to come to a decision between themselves over who should be Opposition Leader. In the end it was the Governor John S. Duncan OBE who made the decision in favour of Honourable Fraser, guided by certain considerations.

When this news site made contact with Honourable Fahie for a comment he said he was travelling and offered no other comment.

it's my personal opinion: fahie,Malone Fraser is a handicap to VIP put Dawson as Chainman; the member for the 3rd remain as opposition leader come 2019 leave him to the footage of the cross

@ SCB possee: its not a matter of being soft; we all know home-boy is tuff, grew in the big-city and all that: we taking about the leadership of our territory; fraser keep having issues Managing his own political party (14 members) my question; how can he manage 30 thousand; his own political circle got an issue with him and is this now public knowledge(facts)

The VIP is going to be just fine no matter what because the VIP is larger than Fahie and Fraser. This is nothing strange in politics. Big America is going through this for both the democrats and Republicans but yet we in the BVI think that the VIP situation is unique.

The best thing for VIP to do is wait for new bodies. Take heed. dead party under either of the Fs.

It's best for the VIP Congress do the right thing by choosing someone else but none of them. Both of them have they good and bad but if I see A**** as the leader of the VIP then officially they will not be no more VIP. Leader like him is nothing more than a person who wants power and becomes a dictator. 2011 has been shown now in 2015 what and who A***** is all about. People may not have noticed but he was right up there on TV and in pic say he supporting Julian as his leader but then the lost of the VIP in the election and he showed the to the country, his party and the party leader the level of disrespect by not allowing the VIP leader to be the Leader of the Opposition. Dam it man, he simply can't be trusted on these grounds and he needs to leave the party and form his own the same persons that signed that document that they sent to the Governor. A....... been so hot up to get the leadership that he simply didn't read the fine print that you must be elected in order to vote for the leader of the opposition from the opposition side. But you know in all this that happen he is going to say he was the master mind behind what was done, lol. People he;s going to continue with his tricky words and slick ways but he wouldn't fool me or others that sees his ways and don't think. A new chairman had to come but none of them, not one..
