Hon. Fahie wants fmr. Finance Minister O’Neal to defend record

Hon. Fahie (left) wants Hon. O'Neal to defend his financial record as former Minister of Finance.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Representative of the First District and former Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Andrew Fahie has called for the Leader of the Opposition and former Minister of Finance Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal OBE, to defend his finance record for the period the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) was in office from 2007 to 2011.

According to Hon. Fahie, there is an economic crisis worldwide, however, the politics of the day would have it as though it is only in the Virgin Islands there is an economic depression and that the Virgin Islands Party is to be blamed.

The VIP lost the November 2011 General Elections to the National Democratic Party (NDP).

“Now I admire the Government side, Madam Speaker, because they did an eloquent job of not punching us hard in here (HOA) but on the streets they are saying the reason we are in it is because of the VIP Government bad spending...but that is political Jargon...but the truth of the matter, Madam Speaker, is that we are in an economic downturn worldwide,” Hon. Fahie said during the Budget Debate in the House of Assembly on March 23, 2012.

He further said when one listens to campaigns and the news worldwide, even in the United States, the situation is similar to the Virgin Islands with the concerns of education, health, environment and economy being dominant topics. “The debates are no different from what we hear here but, Madam Speaker, we have to put these things in context...”

Hon. Fahie then said he was waiting on his leader Ralph T. O’Neal to defend his finance record because “the rate that the new Government going they are going to kill him financially if he doesn’t explain something soon”.

“So I want to encourage him...because I wasn’t the Minister of Finance, I spent what they gave me, to make sure that he comes out to set his record straight because, Madam Speaker, when you analyse it you have even some of the youngest of children done pick up the message that well Fahie you all sit down there and mash up the country. And I know I didn’t mash up any country. What I was given I spent and when I had needed more I did what I had to do....”

The former Minister of Education also said he knows Hon. O’Neal will come out to defend his record as he is a man of integrity and that he was being extremely “cautious”.

Poor you, who talking about outlive? Ralph can live for as long as he can but he definately is not fit to do the work of the people any more. 9th District made a big mistake and continue to pay for it. Remember it is service before selfe so if the man can't help himself, how the hell he is going to serve his people? I have seen many talents from that district gone to waste and a few still fighting but the 9th District have to realize that their problem is not change, their problem is Ralph.

Good point Mr. Fahie. If the VIP does not define and explain their legacy it will be done for them by the NDP and you know with their Washington spin doctor what the results will be!!

Mr. Fahie, stop talking nonsense please. You cannot compare the BVI to other parts of the world that were feeling the financial pinch. The BVI had money. When we saw what happend in other countries we were supposed to tighten our belts and spend more carefully. Instead we had every minister for himself going wild. Fraser on marina, Omar on Ghut and greenhouse, fahie filling in west end and carrot bay and so forth. Where was the planning Fahie? Fahie you were in Cabinet when your Government spent almost $6mil on a greenhouse with no plans fahie. I can't forgive that. you said we were in recession and Fahie you, YOUUUUUUU took over $600k and spent on studies that would be to no immediate positive impact, if any at all to the Territory. Fahie, you approved a $1mil fence around the high school while the library looked like one from Haiti. come on fahie i have lost a lot of respect for you lately;.

The cabinet also support a $46 million overexpenditure in 2006. I wonder if that help with this financial situation. that is $46 million that could have been in the kitty. VIP soft though cause what they needed to do was say what they meet in there but knowing VIP they don't like to play a blaming game. record you going get cause enough is enough.

If you hate Fahie that's your choice but get the facts. Don't follow no one so blindly like you follow the NDP and I am a 3/4 NDP so jump on me now.

Actually Fahie CANNOT be taken seriously if he is asking Ralph to defend a finance record. For him to make such a call is a JOKE.

I listen to the budget debate & I didn't realise many things about the NDP until Fahie revealed them. Since then I researched them & found them to be of substance. The NDP cut Ocean conversion down fro $24per 1000 gallons to $6.88per thousand gallons. They fired the other local company that was doing the sewage. Quietly signed a sewage contract at the same time with an outside company for $20per 1000gallons to refine sewage water so it can be dumped in the sea & through killing Ocean Conversion allowed the door to be opened later on for biWater. All this was done in the 2003-2007 NDP administration but craftidly got the people in the elections to believe that the VIP killed Ocean Conversion the local company. Ah saw give it time!
