Hon Fahie salutes mothers as hallmark of Territory
The day, dedicated to honouring maternal bonds, motherhood and the influences of mothers in society, saw the leader of government business releasing a special Facebook video message today Sunday, May 12, 2019, as part of a moving tribute to all mothers of the Virgin Islands (VI).
Community Guides
“It is my distinct honour and pleasure to say to all the mothers of the territory, the best on this 2019 observance of Mother’s Day… Mothers you are indeed special, you are the hallmark, the core of society and the guide in our communities,” Hon Fahie said in the social media missive.
According to the Premier, “If we look around at locally, regionally and internationally, the reality is clear that great societies are built on the foundation of the strength and wisdom of mothers, mothers who borne us and then nurtured us to build this world,” he said.
In quoting a proverb from Poet J. Rudyard Kipling, the Premier implored, “God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers,” while saluting his own mother, Iris Dorene Romney-Fahie and wife Sheila E. Forbes-Fahie whom he recounts as rocks and important pillars in his life for their maternal roles.
“Indeed we are all better people because of our mothers, we love you, we cherish you, and we appreciate you,” Hon Fahie underscored.
Better Tomorrows
Further the Premier in his Mother’s Day message, reflected on the words of Historian Washington Irving, “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us,” he said in noting that mothers play a role as counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness in one’s life.
According to Mr Fahie, “As representative for the First District, I rejoice with and honour all of the mothers. As Premier of this beautiful territory, I join with your sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews… and more to say mom, it is because of your committed hand, we are confident that our tomorrows will definitely be better than our yesterdays.”
